Flashing Lights is a delicious IPA that is bittered with Chinook and heavily dosed with Citra®, Mosaic® and Cascade. Beautifully aromatic and very easy drinking, this is a definite crowd pleaser! Flashing Lights is one of the many innovative rotating beers brewed by Cloudburst Brewing.

Cloudburst Brewing in Seattle Washington is one of our favorite craft breweries. We met Steve Luke (owner and head brewer) up at the Yakima Fresh Hop Ale Festival and were thoroughly impressed with his beer.  After tasting every beer at the festival, there was no question that the Cloudburst Wet Hop IPA was best in show.

Steve, being an ex-homebrewer, was happy to help MoreBeer! with one of his famous IPAs.  If you are not familiar with the amazing Cloudburst IPAs he makes, you might be familiar with another IPA of his, Elysian Space Dust. Cloudburst brews up a constantly rotating selection of flavorful and unique brews. Stop by the tasting room the next time you are in Seattle; until then, you'll  just have to brew up some Flashing Lights!

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

Complex, hoppy but smooth
I split this in half to make two, 2.25-gallon batches. Came in at 8% ABV. There are a bunch of different hops here added at different times. The flavor was delightfully hoppy, yet smooth (probably due to the ABV) and complex.

Now that’s some head.
Haven’t tasted it yet, ABV 7.3%, about another week in bottles. This one you’ll want to have a blowoff tube, with the late hop additions she really gets a lot of head. Learned a lot from this one.

Very well-balanced beer
This was a great beer. Plenty of hop characteristics with out being overwhelming. Lots of citrus notes at the end without tasting like someone dumped orange juice in it. Malty, hoppy, juicy. Mine came in at 7.2%. Will definitely purchase again.

IBU
The ingredients show only 4oz for 60min and 4oz for 18 min hops. How does the IBU come even close to 60?

Response from MoreFlavor
Hello Jeff - Chinook being the first addition has a rather high Alpha Acidity Percentage, even a small addition at the begin of the boil will get the IBUs well above 30s in a 5 gallon batch of beer. It is also known that whirlpool additions inevitably extract some bitterness.

Best IPA
I normally don't review brew kits, especially IPA because I usually modify them with grapefruit zest, which I did to this one. But having said that, this IPA is fantastic. It's light and smooth with a tremendous hoppy aroma and finish. I'm going to buy more.
