A German-Style Wheat Beer with a blond color and hazy appearance. There is very little hops in this recipe because the flavor is based primarily on the flavor of the very specialized Hefeweizen yeast. Six pounds of Bavarian Dried Wheat Malt Extract, 60% wheat and 40% barley, is used as the base extract. A simple, yet award winning recipe that has become a favorite with our customers who enjoy German-Style Wheat Beer.

This kit does not contain any grain, only Dry Malt Extract. No grain bag is needed.

*NOTE: If your fermentation goes a little crazy at first, don't fret. Just clean off the airlock and replace it.

MoreTips!: Try adding 8oz of Caramunich (GR591) & 4oz of Chocolate (GR600) to make a Dunkelweizen!

Watermelon Wheat
This is the best beer I've brewed, awesome summer beach brew! I'm about to do my third batch of it, can't get enough.

Started with the German Hefe extract kit. Brewed with WLP 320 yeast so the bananas don't hide the watermelon.

Added 1/4 lb honey 30 minutes into boil to bump up the ABV, 4.5 % is fine but I like a little more kick (came out at 6.2%). Can't taste the honey in the beer.

After 10 days in primary added 6 cups of watermelon to secondary, let it bubble for another 10-12 days (check final gravity). This time I'm just going to add it to the primary after initial fermentation stops and see how it goes - less dishes to wash and there's really no need for a secondary with wheat beer. Used an ice cream scoop and potato masher to juice and then strained through cheese cloth (don't like floaties). Football size seedless watermelon was just barely enough to get 6 cups, might try a seeded one next time, they seem to have a stronger taste.

Slight watermelon nose and up front taste, finishes clean - and goes FAST, I'm going to start doing 10 gallon batches. You get enough watermelon to instantly know what it is but not enough to be overpowering.

Great Kit - extremely drinkable
This was the 2nd kit I ever made and man was it a hit! It is so easy to brew and is the perfect summer beer. I was terrified of it tasting too much like bananas so I used the California Ale yeast from white labs instead, and I think it gave it great flavor. Will brew this one again during the summer time.

Great Beer
I brewed this as my 4th attempt at home brewing. As they always say "4th time is a charm!" This beer turned out perfectly. Had fantastic flavor. Was easy to brew. Was a hit with the neighbors. I will brew this one again!

Awesome Tasting Hefeweizen!
I recently served this beer at a party, and my guests could barely tell the difference between mine and another hefeweizen brewed by a large commercial craft brewery! In fact, most of them preferred mine! I will definitely be making this again.

Simple and Tasty!
I am a new brewer, and this was my first kit, and I could not have been more pleased. The kit was very easy to brew, and the instructions were very clear and simple to follow.

The hardest part of this kit was WAITING for it to be ready to drink!

Carbonated very nicely, and was an excellent, drinkable beer. Will gladly brew this one again!

Great, easy hefe recipe!
This was the first time brewing this beer. It has a violent primary fermentation and requires a blowoff tube. I kept it in the primary for 2 weeks. I added 4oz of cherry extract to the bottling bucket for a little tart kick. I bottle conditioned for 2 weeks. It turned out great. Everyone loves it. You get the nice banana and clove flavor from the hefe, along with a tiny tart kick at the end. Nice little addition to a hefeweizen. I would definitely recommend this kit and brew it again.

Nice Summer Ale
I really liked brewing this recipe. I have been home brewing now for at least a couple of years and starting to add on towards better equipment for my beers to come out better each time. I will say though this is one of my favorites as it fermented down in the basement at 64 degrees F. My color is more amber than the picture but you can taste the spiciness like clove in the sip and a little sparkle too. I wanted another bottle but need to save these for sharing with some of my friends and at our campground. Also, this brew for me did not take too much time at all to ferment and condition. I always secondary my ales after the first week, and this was very easy and rewarding. I would recommend this ale to others. I recommend also the White Labs Hefe Yeast. White Labs is awesome!

Extremely simple
I've made 12 5 gallon batches of beer and this kit was so simple that it surprised me. There are no grains to steep. You basically heat water and add this. My 1st, 2nd and 4th beers were Hefeweizens in order to try to replicate Andorfer Weizenbock (Wei?br?_u Andorfer) The Weizenbierbrauerei Thomas Andorfer brewery is the smallest of the 4 wheat beer breweries in the college town of Passau, Bavaria, Germany and home of a beer I will always love.

Does this recipe compete? Nope. I feel that failing to steep grains results in a quite bland example of a hefeweizen and I say that as I have added it to my cart and will check out and purchase it again.

This kit is a bare bones example of a German Hefe that can be modified like the Belgians hard core. Think of it as a blank palate. Always and most certainly add at least an additional pound of sugar, use liquid and dry yeast at the same time with a blow off hose (I suggest Mangrove Jack).

German Hefewiezen - Extract Beer Kit
This was one of the best tasting brews I've ever done. Friends and family all enjoyed it. It was fairly simple with the extract. Will be buying this one again!
