Hop Hunter IPA by Sierra Nevada brewing is the inspiration for this delicious recipe.  Hop Gatherer is a Hop Hunter clone, which contains all of the same ingredients as the original beer, but gives you the option of what distilled oil you would like to use.  We offer the kit with either Chinook or El Dorado farm distilled hop oil.  Either way, this makes a tasty, easy drinking and highly aromatic IPA!

A bit about farm distilled hop oil: Distilled immediatley after picking, farm distilled hop oil gives you the bursting aroma provided by fresh hops.  By distilling the oil at the farm, the distinct character of a "wet hop" beer is able to be replicated year round.  The oil can be added post fermentation, typically at bottling.  You can even add the oil directly to your glass! Be careful, it is VERY POTENT!

Light in color and incredibly smooth, this IPA is enjoyed by all. Not too bitter, but absolutely hoppy enough to please the biggest hop head!

  • Makes 5 gallons

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

My personal favorite. Very hoppy, easy to brew. Been brewing >10 years and have switched back to extract because I’m lazy and it turns out quite good!

Yummy
Was a little nervous with all the competing hop varieties. Turned out to be pretty tasty. I'll make this kit again, for sure.

Fruity
Came out decent but nothing like hop Hunter. I used us-05 and kept temp at 67*. I added the chinook oil at kegging. This beer came out very fruity to me and everyone I served it to. Pineapple and mango flavors we're noted. Everyone seemed to like it.

Oil did not work out
I added the oil (which amounted to a few drops) to the beer in the bottling bucket and stirred a lot, but the oil was not distributed to all of the bottles. And really did not add a pleasant flavor when it was present. The oil is very strong, but does not enhance the beer.
