Description

  • A09 is a beloved and highly flocculent British ale strain. Well suited for a variety of beer styles
  • Produces high levels of esters, making it an excellent choice for when balance between malt and yeast derived esters is necessary
  • Double pitch size with a minimum of 200 billion cells—twice the size of the standard yeast pitch
  • Imperial Yeast is a group of hard-working, fermentation fanatics who provide the brewing industry with the highest quality, most effective yeast possible

A09 Pub is a highly sought after strain that home brewers swear by due to is ability to achieve brilliantly bright ales in a short amount of time. Because Pub is extremely flocculent it will tear through fermentation and drop out of your beer quickly. This strain will produce higher levels of esters than most ale strains. A sufficient diacetyl rest is highly recommended when using A09 Pub.

Attenuation: 69-74%
Flocculation: Very High
Alcohol Tolerance: 10% ABV
Optimum Fermentation Temp: 64-70°F
Cell Count: 200 Billion
Similar Strains: WLP002, WY1968

Please Note: For best results we Always recommend ordering an Ice Pack with your liquid yeast. Ice Packs can be found below in the "You might Also Need" section.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

Over 100 days old
Over 100 days old. I wish there was a way to verify the date before purchasing. Aside from that, packed well and kept cold, so that's nice at least.

I used this yeast in the More Beer Oatmeal Stout recipe and it’s delicious! One thing I like about this yeast (besides the flavor) is that it comes with enough viable yeast cells that I don’t need to make a starter (unless you have a high gravity beer) and you pitch it directly into your cooled wort without needing to smack a pack and you don’t have to worry about taking it out of the refrigerator ahead of as you pitch it cold.

Not my bag
The yeast fermented fast and finished nice but, the flavor it imparted is not what I was looking for. I did a split batch with my latest creation of an American porter with the other one getting Flagship. The flavor in the Pub fermented batch has a sharp black licorice flavor that I do not prefer over the Flagship clean and crisp flavored batch. I gave it 3 stars because of only the flavor, I do not like black licorice type sharp twang it has lol but the yeast performed great as it is listed so take this review as a personal flavor review. The beer was fermented at 62°F and raised to 70°F after 4 days where it was completed before cold crashing after the seventh day.

Trouble with yeast during hot season -be careful
Packages arrived "Hot" - very hot. Bag had expanded almost to the point of exploding. This despite my paying extra for two ice packs, along with an insulated bag. The person at More Beer was very polite and suggested I build a yeast starter to determine if the yeast was still viable. Problem is that I buy imperial yeast so I don't have to build a starter. Second problem (and my biggest concern) is that the yeast have been severely Strained and it's not clear that off flavors have not already started to build. Not worth the risk. Suggest people consider your local temperatures when ordering temperature sensitive materials. Along with this shipment was 5 other types of yeast and I think it's all bad.

Crazy Fermentation
I ordered this yeast and had it shipped with two ice packs and in it's own protective package. When it arrived, the ice packs had gone warm and the yeast \was pretty warm as well, which worried me. I put it in the refrig for about 10 days and finally brwed my Imperial Porter. I made a double yeast starter for this yeast in case cells had died in shipment. I oxygenated my wort and added the yeast. It began fermenting 2 hours later and was one of the wildest fermentations I've ever had. Brewed it two days ago and still going like mad. Looking forward to the end product.
