Description

L28 Urkel is a traditional Czechoslovakian lager strain that provides exceptional balance between hops and malt. Slightly sulphery during fermentation, but will clean up nicely during lagering. Ferment toward the higher end of the range for a beer with minimal sulfur notes and a light ester profile.

  • Temp: 52-58°F,11-14°C
  • Flocculation: Medium
  • Attenuation: 71-75%
  • Cell Count: 200 Billion

Usage Instructions:
  • ​Store refrigerated until ready to pitch
  • Shake and kneed pouch to homogenize slurry
  • Sanitize the sealed pouch
  • Open and pitch entire contents into well-aerated wort

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

This yeast ferments clean and fast at ale temps (66F). I've done several batches of German lagers that all were absolutely delicious with no off flavors this way.

Oktoberfest
Took off like a rocket in my Oktoberfest. Used instead of Harvest which is my typical go to. Attenuated down to 1.010. Fermented warm. No sulfur to speak of after a ramp up. Clean. Crisp. Delicious.

I enjoyed this yeast for many reasons.
Fermented my beer in roughly 2 weeks.
Did a good job clearing up after fermentation
The yeast flavor is there! but it doesn't outshine your malt or hop characters

Nice lager yeast
I made a starter because I made a 10 gallon batch, but I'm not even sure I needed to do it. I hit FG in under 4 days at 54 degrees.

It throws a good amount of sulfur during fermentation, but it's going away pretty fast now that it's lagering. Beer tastes great! I will buy again.

Just a really clean and healthy yeast otherwise.
