A Platinum Strain from White Labs that we now make available all year around. This is a famous Pilsner lager strain from the Southern Czech Republic. Produces dry, crisp lagers with low diacetyl production.

We Recommend you make a yeast starter for all lagers. Because of the cold environment you will need about 4 times as much yeast to successfully ferment a lager. If you don't have a yeast starter pitch 2-4 vials at 60-70F and cool to 48-52F within 12-18 hours. To ferment lagers like the German's and Czech's make an active starter of 2000ml per 5 gallons. Pitch at 45-48F and let it naturally rise to 48-52F. Hold your fermentation at 48-52F for 4-6 weeks in the primary. A diacetyl rest is recommended after the last week of fermentation. Raise to 55-58F for 3-5days and crash to 40F. It is normal if lager fermentation takes 3-4 days to show any sign of krausen after pitching yeast.

Attenuation: 75-80%
Flocculation: Medium
Fermentation Temperature: 50-55F

This is the favorite pilsner strain of MoreBeer!'s Christopher Graham.

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

Amazing yeasts
It made my Czech dark ready for sharing less than 3 weeks after brewing (finished, clear, no off flavors whatsoever). That brew won best of show 2.5 weeks in after brewing. Seriously, treat it right, make a very healthy starter (I did 2 packs with a 2L starter and added corn sugar once the starter stopped fermenting to keep the yeasts happy), and let it ride in the low 50s after brewing. This very well may become my house lager strain.

Nice, clean fermentation
Pitched a starter made from 2 packs of WLP802. Fermented well without any misbehavior in my Czech premium lager. I let it go two weeks at temps around 54 degrees. Took a 1.057 wort to 1.015, for an apparent attenuation of 72.7 %. The finished beer came out pretty clear and the gravity sample tasted great. It is now in secondary.

ICE1 Pack Inadequte
ICE1 pack is insufficient to ship overnight in California. Yeast arrived warm and then when used was very weak.

The Read Deal
I tinkered with my bohemian pils recipe for two years. I tried the urquell yeast, the budvar yeast, and other lager yeasts. Finally, I took a Best in Show after using this yeast. It's a winner for a true Bohemian Pils.

This is not Budvar, this is Budejovice
I've been working for months (OK, years) on a Pilsner Urquell clone. After finally getting the grain bill right, I focused on the yeast, and this is the one. Yes, Budvar, a Wyeast product, is a great yeast; but if you're looking for a Bohemian Pils, give this one a try. It makes a delicious brew.

I really like this yeast and have been using it for my lagers going on 2 years now. One of the advantages is that it does attenuate higher than most other lager yeasts. It may be a bit temperamental, but if you treat it right it will treat you right.
