I love this stuff! It has quickly become my house yeast because no matter how much you abuse it it still makes super clean beer. It's the rough and tumble version of US-05.
Excellent yeast started fermenting within 2 hours
Ferments fast and clean.
I live in a warm and humid climate. I was want to try this out to make a lager in warm weather. This yeast has its own flavor profile. I lived in Germany for about 4 years and just love my Helles and Bavarian lagers. This yeast will change that "flavor" if that is what you are expecting. It makes a good beer that my friends liked, but it wasn't what I wanted or expected for a helles.
Took off like a rocket.
I'm generally a us05 exclusive Homebrewer. This was the first kveik strain I've tried. I expected quick magic and decided to give it a try. I've brewed 2 batches on it so far. 1)an Oktoberfest/marzen from the liquid yeast and the 2nd another light Amber from the yeast cake. I expected a fast fermentation but got about the same speed as us05. I don't use temperature control. My first batch was sweet and took over 2 weeks until it dried out. My second batch was only a 4% abv and had a similar fermentation time.I suppose my positive comments would be after additional time on the keg, the beers taste exceptionally clean and was clear within 2 weeks without any fining. US05 would routinely take over a month to clear.I think I'll try other kveik strains, I'm very interested in the dry strains.

Ok. It does everything it promises. Ultra fast fermentation. Clean finish.fantastic product.
Super clean and leaves the beer very clear!
Tried to see what this would do for a West Coast IPA. Pitched at 78, finished fermenting in about 4 days. Kicked it up to 85 for 3 day diacetyl rest. The beer is crystal clear without cold crashing or finings. Very clean and lets the hops shine through. No more temp control for me!
I purchased Lutra Kveik to make Pseudo Lagers. The first brew was a Pseudo Helles. My OG was 1.047 and was estimated the apparent attenuation at 79% for a FG of 1.010. My actual apparent attenuation was 89% for a FG of 1.005. I fermented at 72F for seven days. There was activity in the blow off tube in 4 hours. I am going to cold crash for a week then into the bottles.
Not sure if something happened to the yeast during shipping, but got a stuck ferm at 50%. Tried to boost with more nutrient and after 8 days had no result.
Brought my seltzer down from 1037 to .999 in two weeks
Holy crap this stuff is fas at high temp! Pitched it at 68F for a pseudo-lager that took about a week but finished super clean. But, Racked a stout onto the yeast cake and set at 90F. Went from 1.075 to 1.012 in 24 hours!
Highly recommend this product. Works really well and fast
With two weeks in a Carboy and two in a keg, it still has a little chill haze. Light American lager is not my favorite by far but it’s what I was trying to make. The crisp and light taste with low body fermented between 70 and 80 degrees F. even with a 6% abv beer.
I bought this yeast after having used the strain in several previous brews. I used it in an American Strong Ale to let the hop and grain flavors shine through, and I combined it with some Belle Saison to add a Belgian twang. 10 days, grain to glass, and it worked admirably.
Yeast arrived as promised, hope to up date my review once I have time to try it.I think Covid created the delivery to be delayed, item arrived warmer than expected with ice pack. Hope it did not effect the yeast.
Trying Lutra for the first time, making a Marzen lager. Wow! Fermented at 80F and was done after several days! It's kegged and will condition for a few weeks. Taste test at kegging: No off flavors, seems to be real clean. Can't wait for the first pour.
Fermented at 90 and was finished after 4 days. Very neutral flavor that lets hops and grain shine. Kinda has a bottom fermenting profile but still not the same.
This stuff is incredible. Brewed MoreBeer’s Hop Blonde using this strain. Went grain to glass in 14 days including 7 days in secondary. Could have been fewer but didn’t have an empty keg to put it in. Brewed on 12/30/20 OG 1.053. By 1/1/21 reached 1.009. Will definitely use this in the future.
I used this in a 5.5 gallon batch of Vienna Lager. OG was 1.052. Wort was oxygenated and had Wyeast nutrient in it. Fermentation started pretty quickly (within several hours) and continued vigorously for the better part of two days. Once all sign of activity in the air lock ceased, I waited a day and then took a gravity reading. 1.017. Huh? That's an attenuation of only 67%. Waited a full day and tried again. 1.017. Both OG and FG readings were taken on a Milwaukee MA871 refractometer. Conversion was done on Brewfather software. The tongue agrees with the refractometer; this beer is under-attenuated. Quite clean, no esters to speak of and the Lutra flocculated nicely, leaving a very clean, pretty beer. So why did a yeast that should attenuate on average 78.5% stop at 67% ? No idea. The wort was oxygenated and fed nutrients the same as every other brew I do, none of which have had attenuation issues to this degree. I really like the characteristics of this yeast and will try it again, hoping for better attenuation. As for now, though, I can only give it a rating of "meh."
A blonde ale at 1.050 was down to 1.010 in like 20 hours. Not only that but it was almost completely clear in the same amount of time. What a strain! Will use this many more times!
