What's the through put? From the description it seems as if the sparge would be all over in ten minutes or so.

BEST ANSWER: If you have a way to control your flow rate you can control how quickly it goes. You could add a ball valve or I have a riptide pump that has a flow control on it. That way you can go as slow or fast as you want. If you have it wide open the sparge will go pretty quick.
Can this be used with a pump?

BEST ANSWER: Yes but make sure the grain bed is set first in a HERMS or RIMS set up otherwise the grain will clog it easily
What's the maximum extension of the vertical portion? I sometimes need as much as 16-17" of rise when doing a 5gal batch in my 15.5 gal "keggle" mash tun. I think the 9" rise is enough when doing a 10gal batch.

BEST ANSWER: Hi David - The vertical portion is 10".
What's the inside diameter of the copper tubing?

Slight modification and it was perfect.
The ring didn’t fit inside the basket of my Unibrau but I cut the copper downtube and connected the top to the copper ring with silicone tube and set that ontop on the grain bed and it worked even better than I thought. The copper ring was submerged under the water level so there was no temp loss or oxidation during recirculating. Original product didn’t work for my setup but my slight modification made it exactly what I was looking for.

Inexpensive and works very well. My efficiency has gone from 65 to 79% by switching from batch to fly sparging using this arm.

Not bad
Only used it once, but on low flow it only comes out the holes closest to the Mash Tun outlet so holes on outside don't populate. Looks like a little bending might fix this, but I didn't want to do that. As soon as you turn up the flow, then it comes out all the holes.
It comes with three different lengths of pipe. Make sure you don't get it too low in your Mash Tun, or it will be submerged...

I was confused when I first got it because the holes are on top of the device. I think that's the design, but seemed weird to me at first.

Simple & Effective
Bought this to replace a plastic drilled sparge arm and I have to say this thing works great. if you have a gravity setup its perfect. controls the flow of water nicely with the ball valve, nice slow sprinkling of the sparge water, and because its copper your sparge water will stay relatively the same temp throughout the sparge. Great for the price. only con I have for it is its copper, needs a nice soaking in starsan before each use to clean the tarnish off of it.

Gravity sparge
This sparge arm is great for the price. I installed it into my MT's lid and it works great with the pump (just have to be careful and put a valve on the outlet of the pump to control the flow going to the arm).
