Foundry and the pump kit
Overall a great system, very easy to start up and use. Out of the box everything was quite clean. All the directions were clear apart from how to apply the different power levels.

For the first brew I went all in on a multi-step mash and lautering rather than batch sparging. Hitting rest temps accurately will take some work but I got closer by the mash-out rest. It seems like the best way would be to set the target tep ~+8F above actual rest temp as the mash bed wasn't getting hot enough. I also probably an the pump for too long and I'll have to see if that affected my foam stability.

As for lautering, I used my old boil kettle for a Hot Liquor Tank and hooked up the pump to the old valve and barb outlet.

Boiling was *fine* but to start out with I had a boil over which is gnarly to clean up with this unit because of the surface area. There is so much protein left in the kettle because of the separation method that a boil over is highly likely. I skimmed the surface a bunch but it still wasnt enough. Also the height of the unit meant I wasn't as attentive to the foam activity as I would be typically. The boil on 120V is a little tepid but I prefer a 90 minute boil anyway so I'm not complaining.

The cooling coil is okay, it was very easy to clean, but stainless is not an ideal metal for heat transfer and the effect was noticeable in cooling time. After the wort dropped below 100F I used the pump clamp on the coil outlet to slow down the flowrate which did a good job of wasting less water and increasing the temperature transfer.

My biggest issue is the height. My understanding is that all of these all-in-ones have similar geometry so its not like a different unit will fix the situation. Perhaps there is a manufacturing reason why they need to hit this footprint but the height is a problem on 2 fronts - firstly, the bed depth of the mash is deeper than ideal for a system this size. Second, when considering placement for the unit to be able to lift the "mash pipe", direct steam, and be able to gravity feed to the fermenter, the OAH is probably around 7 feet.

Still, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend.

The one to buy for both extract and all-grain brewing.
Write your review here. It must be at least 20 characters long. Consider I've been brewing with a decked out 10 gallon Spike Brewing Kettle and propane burner for about 5 years now. It works great, but, you've gotta' be outside, even on crummy days. I've been eyeing all in one, all-grain systems for quite some time now. This one is made by Blichmann Engineering, and well, they really know what they're doing. This system is a pleasure to brew with. It heats up quickly for an electric unit, which works on both 120v and 240v wiring (1600w for the former, and 28w on the latter). It holds temps within a degree, and get the pump for sparging which will lead to greater efficiency. Set up is fast, clean up a breeze, and when done, each batch gets aeration of O2 and then into either a Spiedel or Big Mouth Bubbler fermenter (and then an Anvil 7.5 gallon fermenter for the secondary). I'm glad that I waited, because this unit holds 10.5 gallons, and is a lot more versatile than other previous units (which all seem to be out doing one another). Bottom line, buy this one, you won't regret it. Cheers and Brew on ...whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

Worth the price. I’d buy it again.
Performed as expected. Heat up times are quick using 240VAC. Wort chiller is efficient. Pump didn’t cavitate at all. Flow slowed at times, but just open restrictor for a second and flow was normal again.

Another level
Outstanding unit. Better than the more expensive grainfather. I also installed a modified rotating Sparge arm to finish with and I am getting 85% efficiency. When chilling I also use the pump to create a whirl pool everything you could want in one unit and more
