This insert blocks the high flow side perforations on the 10.5 gal Foundry to improve efficiency for small grain bills. By blocking the high flow side perforations on the basket, recirculating wort is directed through the bottom of the basket. Perfect for half batches, or session beers.

Negligible fix for poorly efficient system

First of all, owners of the anvil system should not be forced to buy this item to improve the poor efficiency of the Anvil 10.5. Previously I used a MLT cooler system and always had efficiencies in the upper 70% range. After 10 brews with the anvil I could not get above 62% (frequently lower). I purchased the small batch ring and saw little improvement. Finally after researching several forums I used a Brew Bag (you must squeeze the grain bag to get the high gravity wort) and achieved 70%+ efficiency. But the prongs on the small batch insert catch the bag and tear it, so I don't use the insert at all any more( and still achieve the same efficiency). The moral of the story is: don't waste your money on this - just use a brew bag.
