Does anyone know if this bar works with the "Compact Magnetic Stir Plate" sold on this site? That one comes with a 1" bar, but I'd like to know if it can handle the 2" one without throwing it.
PHILIP M on Nov 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have a small build it yourself stir plate and the 2" bar gets thrown easily. That said, the compact stir plate on this site looks sturdier and may have a stronger magnet which can handle the 2" bar.

Problem is how this is sold and labelled
In short the issue is simple: Stir bars are magnetized themselves. This is why a 2"-Stir bar like this one does not work well with a smaller stirplate like the Wart Whipper by Kegland. I know because I bought two 2" Stir bars, but the Wort Whipper comes wit a 1" bar. The 1" bar works well provided that it is on a semi-flat or concaved, not convex, surface; like the bottom of a Farro Glass Carboy for example. The 2" bar doesn't like to mesh, or bond, with the internal magnets on the Wort Whipper.
The stir bar itself is fine, but a Type B Stir Bar which has a "ring" around the center which raises the stir bar off of the bottom of the vessel and thereby allowing the stir-bar to work on a area with only a small pocket(s) of flatness.

Does not work well with smaller stirrers
One inch stir bars work well with the micro stir plate but this one can not be used on it at anything other than the slowest speeds.

Had to try...wish I didn't
Like other folks have said it does not stay balanced and gets thrown off. Tried multiple times at different speeds. Great idea on paper.

Rattle free stirring!
Much more stable than the short stir bar that came with my stir plate (purchased elsewhere). Spins smoothly with no rattling.

bad design
I bought the two inch bar about a year ago and like everyone else says it gets thrown. I have found that turning the stir plate off, cranking the speed all the way up, setting the flask with starter and bar on the stir plate and sliding it around in a circle before setting it in the center of the plate then turn it on gets it working most of the time. forget trying to start off slow and speed it up, I just go straight to full speed. I noticed the 1" bar has a ring around the middle that would reduce the contact area with the bottom of the flask, maybe the 2" bar needs the same.

It never worked with my stir plate. Every time I turned it up the speed of the plate, the bar would fly off and stay on the side of the flask. Not what I thought it would be.

Unusable with Hanna Magentic Stir Plate
I have only ever used the Hanna Magnetic Stir plate sold by Morebeer, so I am not entirely sure if maybe it's a stir plate issue, but as others have noted, this is unusable. It spins for a few second and then gets thrown. I am guessing due to it's irregular surface. Stick with the 1 inch bar as it does not have this problem at all.

Not good
It will not stay on the stir plate unless it is a very low speed. It will not stay on my smaller stir plate at all
