Description

No more boil overs, no more blow-off tubes. Once you’ve used Foam Control you’ll never brew without it again!

Foam control does just what its name suggests--it reduces foam production during  the hot-break portion of the boil, and it reduces the amount of krausen developed during fermentation.

Also known as FermCap S, Foam Control does not affect the head on your finished beer. In fact, it can actually increase the head by retaining head-forming compounds that would have been blown off during fermentation. It will settle-out of your beer before bottling or kegging as it is actually absorbed onto the surface of the yeast cells and filter media.

Add two drops per gallon at start of fermentation. Comes in an eye dropper bottle for easy use. 1 oz is good for about 50 x 5-gallon batches of beer. Also available in bulk 1 gallon size.

Note: Keeps best when stored in the refrigerator.

It says to add at start of fermentation. Does this mean at yeast pitch or when signs of fermentation start?
John Cuthbertson on Nov 28, 2023
BEST ANSWER: From searching the internet, "Fermcap S™ settle out in the yeast sediment when fermentation ends. Use ¼ to ½ teaspoon per 5 gallon batch of beer, adding right before you add the yeast. Preserved with sodium metabisulphite. This 4 fluid oz. bottle is good for many batches and should be stored in a cool place, and shaken before each use to unify the emulsion.
So if I add this in pre-boil do I need to add a second dose when I fill the fermenter?
tony ashdown on Mar 3, 2023
BEST ANSWER: I only used Foam control during the boil to keep it from bubbling over. There is a fine balance between a vigorous boil and having the boil bubble over out of the pot and make a big mess. This is where I used Foam Control was during the boil to keep it from foaming over.

I suppose you could use Foam Control during fermentation as well if you are afraid of your fermenter bubbling over and blowing out your air locks or blow off tubes. I have had that happen a few times and it is also a big mess. I have never used Foam Control for this, but it seems like a good idea. I will try it next time it looks like my fermenters might bubble over.
How does this work to prevent boil over in an air still?

No boil-overs...
Two drops per gallon of wort being boiled and you'll avoid a sticky mess if you turn away from your kettle for three seconds. I had six drops in three gallons of wort and my "boil" looked like a slow, rolling simmer. Very impressive stuff...

Wow! I used this on my last 3 boils. Just a few drops made the foam disappear. No more boil overs. Impressed.

Won't Brew Without It
Does what it says it does. Cheap. Effective. Results are often immediate. Has prevented many a boil over. Every brewer should give this a try at least once.

It works, but I can't open the bottle
The one ounce bottle is nearly impossible to open. It hurts my fingers terribly and after ten minutes I usually give up. When I've gotten it open it does work well.
