The Blichmann Therminator Wort Chiller is one of the most popular tools to use when chilling your wort, as it gets the job done quickly, effectively and without much effort from you. This particular chiller has 40 plates and 316 stainless steel plates and fittings. It features ½ inch MPT for the wort in and out, and a ¾ inch MPT garden hose thread for the water in and out. You’ll be able to chill just like the pros when you use the Blichmann Therminator Wort Chiller, as it is extremely similar to the chillers used in commercial breweries.

The Therminator chiller is small but mighty, with the capability to chill 10 gallons of wort down to 68 degrees when using 58 degree water in just five minutes! It measures an ultra compact 7.5 inches wide, 4 inches deep and 3 inches high, which also makes it very easy to clean and sanitize. It is brazed together with pure copper in an oxygen-free furnace so there are no potential leaks, and it even comes with heavy gauge stainless mounting bracket to keep your system looking sturdy and seamless.

  • All 316 stainless steel plates and fittings.
  • Chill like the pro's - Identical to commercial brewery chillers.
  • Brazed together with pure copper in an oxygen free furnace - no potential leaks like a gasketed unit.
  • Chill 10 gal in 5 min to 68°F using 58°F cooling water at 5 gpm.
  • Ultra compact (7.5" W, 4" D, 3" H)
  • Easy to clean and sanitize - small enough to boil!
  • Garden hose thread connections on water side - no extra adapters to buy.
  • 1/2" male NPT fittings on wort side mates up with virtually all common hose connector types. Much easier to sanitize than female fittings.
  • Comes with heavy gauge stainless mounting bracket

Performs as advertised. Exceeds my expectations. Even with a warmer ground water temp, I’m able to get boiled wort down to a pitch temperature.

Worthless insta-clog chiller
I use a B3 hop spider and muslin bags to filter my hop pellets.

Literally every single time I use this chiller, it clogs. I've tried back flushing and front flushing, and every time, as soon as I hook it to the March pump and pump wort through it, flow rate goes to near zero.

Back flushing works to clear it, until the next time I try to cool wort and then thee same problem pops up.

I'll be taking this to the metal recyclers soon.

Do not recommend this to anyone. I'll be going back to my B3 immersion chiller next batch.

I should have bought this years ago
How many times did I let a few hundred bucks slip through my fingers when I could have ditched my wimpy immersion chiller for this beast? I LOVE my Blichmann plate chiller and it has completely reinvented my brew days with its efficient and rapid cooling capacity. No clogs, but I do recommend the back flush hose for ensuring any crud gets cleared out between batches.

Good function, poor form
This thing cools wort like a boss. With the correct flow rate and reasonably cool ground water temp you'll be able to cool an arbitrary amount to near pitching temp in short order. You knew that though. Function is top notch, but...

My brew setup uses Blichmann quick connectors everywhere. The Therminator requires garden hose connectors for the cooling water - which means I have to use adapters to make this Blichmann product work with other Blichmann products - silly.

Second, the edges on the back-side of the chiller are sharp. You _will_ cut yourself. Especially if you use Blichmann quick connectors which require you twist something with your fingers right next to raw metal edges.

Third, It feels like it's going to slice your hands when you pick it up. It's very uncomfortable to handle which you have to do when cleaning. This might seem picky but at $200 and with the Blichmann name it's not.

Last, the mount is functional but for something you have to take on/off to clean and store it doesn't make sense to use bolts vs some type of bracket. I'm OK being wrong on this one because it does work well and comes with a solid mount.

Before this I used a DIY counterflow chiller that worked but had crappy connectors and looked lame. If I was buying today I'd look at the compact copper counterflow chillers that likely clean/sanitize/dry better.

Worked Great!
I was skeptical about this, but it cooled my wort from boil to about 84 even with fairly warm hose water. Next time I'll try to control the flow like they recommend and see if that gets even better results!

Does what it's supposed to. Easy to clean if you rinse immediately after use. Another great Blichmann product.

great product
Living in south Florida we have an issue with cooling the wort. the first time I used this it instantly dropped the temperature 70 degrees with tap water. Wish I would have bought it a long time ago!

Chills Fast
Used this for the first time on last brew and 6 gallon batch chilled in about 10 minutes with 58 degree water coming out of my well. This think is built like a tank and worth every penny!
