Description

If your conical doesn't feature a dedicated sample port, pulling samples from your fermenter can be pain. You're likely forced to pull samples from your racking valve and don't have a way to control flow. With a butterfly valve and this plunger-style sample valve, you can do just that. Attach to your butterfly valve and open it all the way, then slowing open the sample valve to cleanly pour a sample.

How much lube is required for this? It came heavily lubed from the white plunger seat up to the threads

BEST ANSWER: Update: I played with this a bit recently, the issue is the gasket/o-ring is slightly too large of a diameter. I didn't have a smaller one, so tried sanding it down slightly which helped a bit. As it ships, the fit is so tight that is removes the lube completely so after a single closing & opening it is basically dry again.

I use this as a purge valve on my pump, not in a fermentor - so my use-case is different and it being so tight is likely preferable in the typical intended use.

Leaked out of the box - scraped my skin off
This valve came with my x2 Uni fermenter and it leaked right out of the box. Thankfully I leak tested the unit with sanitizer before filling it with wort. The sharp ridges on the knob aggressively dig into your hand skin as you try to tighten it more and more to stop the leaking. At this point, it's so tight I can't even open the valve (and it's still leaking). This valve is garbage.

works great
Seems to work great. I just put a little keg lube on the o-ring and teflon plunger. Remember to open your system a little before you take a sample otherwise you'll get some suck back from your fermentation lock

Great for taking sames to check to see if the fermintation finished.
Works great. I use it on my spike flex+. Make sure you clean it well. The lube on the internal seal o-ring has a wiers taste. Use keg lube to re lube internal seal.
