This fits well on my 6.5-gallon threaded carboy (not for 5-gallon smooth neck). I use this with my racking cane and insert a Flare Fitting - 1/4'' Male Flare x 5/16'' Barb into the small opening. The barb is connected to my CO2 cylinder. Just a burst of gas (5psi) starts the siphon!
Great product, hood stays secure and sealed during fermentation, love the multiple options with the two different sized ports on it. Takes the worry out of a bung flying off and painting the walls of my house with krausen.
The fit apparently is a bit loose with the Speidel fermenter - I get no action with my airlock. In case it is just a bad item, I ordered another one. I will update my post after getting a chance to test it. (I also have the "smooth neck" model for my standard carboy, and it fits great. 5 stars for that one.)
These hoods work great. No worries about the stopper popping out, and they are easy to use with a blow off or air lock. I haven't used a stopper since I bought my first hood.
If you have the old 6.5 gal carboy with the screw top mouth, these are a great choice over a stopper or bung type. No worry of dust settling around the lip of the carboy because the cap covers everything. Also, the two ports are useful for adding a blow-off tube, airlock, thermowell and even a racking cane. These are what i prefer to use.
When I realized that the 6.5 gallon carboy someone gave me had a different neck than my other carboys right after pitching my yeast. Thankfully Morebeer was right down the road with the right cap.
Ordered this and the 6.5 gallon carboy from here. The rubber will not fit over the glass lip of the carboy thus will not stay on. Ended up going to Home Depot and getting some 1 1/4" O.D. blow off hose which will fit directly into the carboy opening creating a seal.
