Description

This digital thermometer is great for taking quick reads of your mash temp or strike water while it heats up. Features auto shut off to conserve battery life and folds up for easy storage. Reads in both °F/°C.

BEST ANSWER: probe is 4 1/2 inches if you mean the probe. I have two. They both read ~ 2º cooler than a cross check with three other thermometers that are all in synch.

not accurate
it's one job is to correctly read temperature.
It reads ice at 36 degrees, and reads boiling water at 208 degrees, that is a fail.
does not automatically turn off when you close the probe

Probe was a little short to check temp. inside carboy for adding yeast. Now use a digitat thermometer for this job. Use the folding thermometer for checking temp. of wort on stove.

NOT for use around liquids.
I figured since it was being used in a "wet" environment, i.e. a brewery, it would stand up better to exposure to liquids. I splashed a little wort on it--but by no means did I soak it, and it immediately stopped working. My own fault for assuming, but be aware of what you're purchasing.

Not sure how accurate, seems to be made for lefties
This thermometer reads a few degrees cooler than my old-school glass thermal expansion thermometer, which I think is pretty accurate. Also the handle seems to be set up to be held in your right hand, so its awkward to hold it while your stirring or something unless you're left handed.

It does read faster than the glass thermometer, and has a much higher range so I'm looking forward to using this for deep frying
