Description

Are you a homebrewer interested in expanding your fermentation hobby?  Well, why not jump into winemaking!  Our wine kits are an excellent way to make high quality wine at home, without requiring all of the large equipment that wineries use.  We have dozens to choose from, so no matter what your favorite type of wine, we're certain to have a kit you'll like!

Cellar Craft's Showcase Series red wine kits include a huge 18L of varietal juice and concentrate! Additionally, Cellar Craft is the only kit manufacturer who includes a crushed skin pack made from over 12lb of entirely new, fresh, never-processed skins that come from the same harvest lot as the juice in your kit. These skins have more tannin and flavor to impart in the wine and are 100% true to the varietal that you're making. This unique practice in the wine kit industry may cost a little more to produce, but we think you'll agree that the results are well worth it!

Like other kits on the market, Cellar Craft's Showcase Series red wine kits come with all the ingredients you'll need to make a great wine out of the box. However, we encourage you to also experiment with different yeast strains and oak styles to create a wine that is exactly what you're looking for and truly unique.

While technically ready to bottle and drink in 6 weeks, Cellar Craft recommends aging these wines for 1 year or more to see full development of the wine's character. Choose to age in the carboy if you want the opportunity to play around with acidity and finishing tannins later, or age in the bottle to see what you get straight from the manufacturer. Just be careful - we all know how hard it is to keep your hands off once the wine's in the bottle!

Makes 6 gallons, or 2 cases, of finished wine

Cellar Craft's Description

The definitive star of Argentina. Robert Parker Jr., the world’s foremost wine guru has stated “(….Argentinean Malbec’s) place in the pantheon of Noble wines will be guaranteed”. Our Malbec is distinguished by its dark, dense structure, full, rounded mouth-feel, prominent, lush flavours of ripe cherry, black currant and black berry, subtle notes of clove, vanilla and caramel with background suggestions of earthiness. The bright, vibrant edge is beautifully counter-balanced by our 2-stage Hungarian oak process.

to blend with cab wine made from fresh grapes.

Very good wine! I have made about 35 wine kits with the Showcase being 25 of them and the Malbec is my favorite. Like all Showcase with skin pack, one year aging is minimum, and the Malbec benefits from an additional 6 months. Very smooth, rich and dark wine equal to $15 commercial wine.

I make this wine yearly, allowing a cellar collection of 2-3 year old wine for drinking. It is a very true flavored Malbec, the best kit available.

What is the brix of this juice concentrate?
David Guinnee on Mar 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Brix is used in many ways and I never use a Brix reading in wine making, I use the specific gravity and balling reading to determine the sugar and alcohol of a wine or juice. The brix and I am not totally not sure it is a measure of sugar by 1 gram and for every gram of sugar it will produce 1/2 gram of alcohol. Most hydrometers do not have a brix reading on it. If I was you I would use the SG or balling reading to determine the sugar and the alcohol the SG is the amount of sugar in the must and the balling is the potential alcohol the yeast will produce, remember the balling is the potential alcohol if the yeast goes to full fermentation.

I made this kit 2.5 years ago. It’s been aging in the bottle for over 2 years. I have “sampled” many of the 30 bottles since then and have noted the differences in the flavor profile. It was good from the beginning and moved to great after one year in the bottle. It’s crossed the line of “amazing” now. I ordered another kit recently and plan on starting it in January 2020. Also part of the plan is to leave ALL 30 bottles alone until January 2023 - three years after pitching the yeast.

I had made over 100 wine kits and if I’ve learned anything it is this. The best ingredient to add to this quality kit is TIME, TIME, TIME. You won’t be disappointed.

Disappointed
I usually use whole grapes but because of a lack of availability I tried several Cellar Craft Showcase kits including this Malbec. The kit seems good with grape skins and necessary supplies. My issue is with the brix. The SG was as advertised for the concentrate but when diluted to come to the advertised 6 gallons the SG dropped to 1.06 or a Potential Alcohol (PA) of 7.5%. That's fine if I'm making beer but it isn't even good enough to make jug wine. It is hard to make a quality wine. Have plenty of sugar ready. Maybe a pound per kit. Very disappointing.

Excellent Malbec, and another great Showcase wine.
I have made about 35 wine kits, and the Showcase Argentinian Malbec is one of my favorites. The Showcase line surprises my wine drinking friends with very good qualities. Like the Showcase with skin packs, the Malbec benefits by aging at least a year, and two years is best, so I suggest to make several kits and build up a cellar. Stay with Cellar Craft Showcase and you will be pleased at the end of the wait.
