Description

This new American White Oak barrel is made by hand and flamed to a medium toast. A small oak barrel is great for ageing your homebrew, homemade wine or spirits. The exterior is raw unvarnished wood, so take care to keep your barrel in tip top shape. The care guide below will give you instructions on to prepare the barrel for first time use, and also how to keep it hydrated and sealed.

Comes standard with a spring-loaded spigot for easy dispensing. An optional stainless steel spigot is also available.

Are there any airlock solutions for this size barrel and threaded opening?

BEST ANSWER: Other than lightly unscrewing the plug on top, there's no way to allow air in while you open the spout at the bottom. Please keep in mind that once you let air into the barrel, your homemade wine will begin to breakdown and spoil. Therefore, whenever you take wine from the barrel you'll need to keep refilling more wine to the very top afterwards. This will minimize the air in the barrel and help preserve your precious homemade vino!

Great little barrel.
Following the Oak Barrel Care Guide, we were able to seal the barrel and fill with wine. Next we will be checking the aging process in these tiny barrels.

No leaks when conditioning, smells good
In addition to no leaks, the water I used to condition the barrel provided promise that aging will be great.
I did notice a small amount of sawdust near the stand, so I separated the barrel from stand and saw it again. I put the stand in the oven at 185F for an hour and the dust stopped.
I am considering a second because the rinse water smelled good enough to drink :)
