Ball Lock Valve With Gauge and PRV

THIS ITEM IS ON BACKORDER
Item currently out of stock
Description

Relieves pressure while filtering from one keg to another plus allowing reading the pressure in the receiving keg.

Notes: The very end of the pressure relief valve can be adjusted by unscrewing to adjust the pressure. If tight, and not adjustable by hand, it needs to be loosened with pliers. Wrap a towel around the end piece of the pressure relief valve (about  the last 1/4 in) and loosen with pliers. Then finger tighten or loosen to desired pressure.

Gauge reads 0 - 15 psi

Can you use a ball lock valve Guage and PRV to Ferment in a coryn keg?
Charles Donahue on Aug 1, 2023
BEST ANSWER: yes, the ball lock valve and prv work perfectly to ferment in a corny keg. My only suggestion would be to adjust your batch volumne if using a 5 gal corny keg. If you brew a 5 gallon batch and put all 5 gallons in the keg, you are going to have a mess to clean up from the blow off. The PRV can get clogged as well. I have had good results doing 4 gallon batches. You can use anti foam drops, but I would lower the volumne even with the drops.

worked well after adjustment
As with others had to tighten everything as it leaked and had to back off the adjustment all the way before it started to allow CO2 out then it was easy to adjust and worked perfectly after that.

Good for what its made to do
First time using, I adjusted using CO2 and set to 12 psi. Added wort to keg and let the ferment start. 24 hours later it was at 15 psi plus. Had to baby sit the pressure, adjust as it went, did not keep at the pressure I had set with CO2. End of day, will need to monitor the pressure I feel, not a set and forget. Fermentation seemed done in 3 days.

Hardware store scavenger hunt
Not nearly as simple of a solution as the Kegland spunding valve assembly. This is a cobbled bunch of brass fittings with a simple spring valve at the end. The weight of the assembly stresses the seal of the ball lock connection. I'll give it points for being solid and easy to move from place to place, but I wouldn't replace my Kegland duotite setup for fermentation.

Sounding valve for fermentation under pressure .
Works well holding around 8 psi . Would have been a five star if there were instructions on setting a pressure.

Sounding valve
Item worked great. I got much more aroma dry hopping under pressure and beer was carbonated in keg much sooner.

Must have, solid price, not ready out-of-the-box
I bought this in order to get into natural carbonation and pressure fermentation, and I just about love the thing. Obviously, it's easy to use (set a regular to target pressure and adjust the valve til it just barely vents), and it seems relatively sensitive, which is great.

The only caveat: mine came with a fitting that had no plumber's tape, which I applied, and the fittings were loose enough that I hemorrhaged CO2 until I soap-tested the thing and tightened it. Also, I looked into making one myself, and the price is very similar, so it's worth mentioning that this thing is a solid deal.

In summary: totally get this if you need it (you do or you don't), but be prepared to tighten it up - when in doubt, check each connection with soapy water while under moderate pressure
