Description

The Ported Fermonster is a brand new fermenter designed specifically for fermentation. MoreBeer! gave product feedback for over 2 years of development and we think they nailed the design. The large lid allows for easy filling and makes hop or oak additions a breeze. The smooth sides are fantastic for sanitization - no ribs or texture to collect yeast or bacteria.  The large 7 gallon size was designed to provide ample space for fermentation and you'll find the molded in volume markers super handy for accurate filling. The punted bottom allows sediment to collect to the sides so that you can siphon liquid from the center.  Because they are made from virgin PET plastic they nearly unbreakable and a lot safer than similar glass carboys. Also notice the conical top which reduces surface area if you plan to store beer or wine long term.

These ported versions come with our plastic spigot (FE347), allowing for easy racking and sampling!

Made from heavy PET plastic, the same material used in 2 L soda bottles, which is nearly impermeable to oxygen penetration.  Due to the thickness of the material and the overall geometry the Fermonster does not require ribs or dimples for stability.  That results in a super smooth interior surface that reduces yeast and sediment buildup making it the easiest to clean, most sanitary PET carboy on the market.  The huge 4" opening makes filling a breeze, and cleanup is as easy as wiping down the inside.  The 7 gallon volume is a monster of a fermenter, reducing blowoff issues seen with standard 5 and 6 gallon carboys. Fermonsters are easily moved by hand or consider using our Carboy Carrier for even greater ease of use.

These fermentors are completely air-tight and the lids sealed tight with an O-Ring.  Additional O-Rings and Lids both with and without holes are available for purchase, see our You Might Also Need items below.

Has anyone had to use a blow off tube and if so what OD?
Michael Cundiff on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Michael,
I've had this fermenter for over a year fermenting 5.5 and 6 gal batches. With aggressive yeast I'll attach a blow off tube. Simply insert a 1/2 OD tube into the size #10 stopper that is a recommended purchase from Morebeer. It creates an airtight fi!

What size tubing will fit the spigot?
Ray Pirc on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Small, like 1/4 ID if you stretch it, 3/8-5/16 fits easily

Solid fermenter for the price and great for anyone who wants a port, doesn't want to deal with glass and is not ready to invest in stainless steel.
No problems real with this fermenter. Works as expected and no leaks through the port. The o ring in the lid is a little difficult to install and the pet material is a little flimsy.

terrible results
I tried the FerMonster, I didn't want to do a SS brewbucket because of cost and for the price what could go wrong.

I was tired of siphoning to a keg and thought the spigot would be ideal. That part worked great transferring to the keg was easy and what I had hoped for, but after 2 batches of really bad beer (oxidized) from the FerMonster I stopped using it

I could never get the stopper to seat properly in the lid. I could smell hop aroma escaping from the fermenter, way more than when I used a regular carboy. After 2 batches getting terrible results, the cost savings was gone and I had beer that I didn't want to drink..
I was so frustrated that I bought the Fermentasaurus Uni Tank Conical Fermenter and that was the solution I needed.

Easy to clean
These are easy to clean, and very light which is helpful. have a few without the spigots, and the convenience of the spigots is great. Converting my others soon.

Defective spigot, do not recommend.
I picked this up to use as a secondary. I leak tested it the day I got it, and the day I went to rack to secondary: No leaks from the spigot.
Once the beer was in, about an hour later I noticed a puddle under it. I went to tighten the spigot from the outside by twisting it, could feel it tighten, but didn't stem the flow. I took it to my sink, and my only recourse was to sanitize my whole arm, reach in there and tighten the nut on the back of the spigot: With little strength applied the whole back side snapped off broken in half across the threads, and I had no choice at that point but to let the whole beer dump down the kitchen skin having no other vessels (or hands) to transfer it to.
The *fermenter itself* may be fine, but I'd not buy one with a plastic spigot ever again: I'd recommend the non-ported one and use an auto-siphon.

I contacted Morebeer about this issue and they offered to ship me a new (plastic) spigot, but it doesn't really make up for the $80 in lost beer / brewday. Guess 'you get what you pay for' is true :(

I dislike giving bad reviews, but others should really be aware
of this before purchase.

Meh
Arrived with a big dent pressed into the side that doesn't quite pop back to shape. And, I have kind of large arms, and I can't get my arm deep enough in this to screw in the spigot, let alone clean it. The 7 gal model is quite tall. Other than that I guess it works fine.

Fitting leaks
Caution! Test your fermenter BEFORE you put beer in it! The spigot leaks both from the front and around the edges. Had to emergency transfer to my glass carboy but still lost about half a gallon before I could get it cleaned and sanitized. I ordered 2, and both leak. And yes, I used the gasket properly, and didn't over-tighten.
