Description

  • 1762 is an excellent yeast strain for use in Belgian dark strong ales
  • A relatively “clean profile” allows a rich malt and distinctive ethanol character to shine
  • Activator Smack-Pack System™ "proofs" the yeast and shortens lag time when it hits your wort
  • When smacked, the Activator™ packet releases sugars and nutrients to initiate the culture's metabolism
  • Wyeast has been a pioneer in craft brewing for over 35 years and is committed to creating the finest fermentation products available
  • Although beneficial, cultures do not need to be activated prior to inoculation

Originating from the legendary Rochefort brewery in Belgium, this strain ferments clean, even in high gravity situations.  The fermentation esters tend to pair well with some of the rich caramel, toffee and raisin flavors extracted from the dark crystal malts typically used in the production of the style.

An excellent yeast strain for use in Belgian dark strong ales. This strain has a relatively “clean profile” which allows a rich malt and distinctive ethanol character to shine. Delicate dried fruit esters can be produced when used at higher fermentation temperatures or in a high gravity wort.

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

Ferocious yeast strain
Brewed a Belgian dubbel style. Made an appropriate size starter, and left 4 gallons of headspace in the conical which is usually enough. This yeast went crazy! 68 degrees in my fermentation chamber, and I didn't force cool it, fermenter got up to about 73 degrees on day 3. Small sample 4th morning showed attenuation from 1.075 OG down to 1.021! I did have an unexpected bubbling out the top, so definitely allow tons of headspace with this strain. Smells characteristic for the style, can't wait to taste it.

Great Yeast
I used this yeast pack to make a delicious Russian Imperial Stout. I used proper starter but this yeast ate quickly and always activates within 24 hours. Defined recommend

Eh
Super slow start and barely movement in the airlock, did a high gravity with two packs pitched. This is the second time using this yeast and last time it didn’t dry out so I figured I’ll pitch two packs.

A+ Shipping and Condition
Smack pack came quickly. Highly recommend purchasing the additional ice packs for transport. Well worth it. Yeast was fairly new so one small starter later it produced two award winning beers. Nothing but quality from MoreBeer.

Workhorse
Worked great in my belgian stout. Provides enough classic Belgian character without overwhelming the beer. Good flocculation and strong attenuation in high gravity wort.

A beast of a yeast!
I use this for my Belgian dark Strongs. But I've also used it in barley wine, Belgian IPA and a Belgian blonde everything was delicious.

took off very well, aroma was great through fermentation. Flavor was solid and flocculated well out of solution.
