  • 1469 produces ales with a full chewy malt flavor and character, but finishes dry, producing famously balanced beers
  • Best used for the production of cask-conditioned bitters, ESB and mild ales
  • Activator Smack-Pack System™ "proofs" the yeast and shortens lag time when it hits your wort
  • When smacked, the Activator™ packet releases sugars and nutrients to initiate the culture's metabolism
  • Wyeast has been a pioneer in craft brewing for over 35 years and is committed to creating the finest fermentation products available
  • Although beneficial, cultures do not need to be activated prior to inoculation

A seldom used strain in the homebrew community, this gem will give a full and complex flavor profile.  Will finish relatively sweet but clear. An excellent choice for those who want a clear beer without all of the hassle of fining or filtration.

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

Does it finish sweet or dry? The description contradicts itself for Wyeast 1469: "Will finish relatively sweet but clear. ".. "chewy malt flavor and character, but finishes dry, producing famously balanced beers."
David C Lavery on Jun 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Fairly dry;-). I use it for all my british bitters, and it KILLS. Great fruity/malty british character, no problems with diacetyl. I'd say the manufacturers description is more accurate. I usually ferment at 66 and then ramp up to 70/72 as soon as fermentation slows. I even harvest this by top cropping the krausen, which by the way, never really drops.

Best British Yeast
In my opinion, this is the best yeast to use for any British style beer. It may not be as popular as the other strains or as high attenuating, but it gives the most unique taste to your beer that you will find. I've used it for Bitters and Stouts and wouldn't turn to any other yeast if I was looking for a strictly British beer.

Timothy Taylor's?
I love Yorkshire ales. Cask Ales to be precise. And this product meets the mark in every aspect of what that means.

Outstanding!
I used this in conjunction with a MoreBeer Best Bitter kit. Wow! What a great yeast. Layers of complexity which could have only come from the yeast given the simple recipe. Can't wait to make an English Brown Ale or Robust Porter with it. The description is spot on. The finished beer was malty yet dry. I preferred this to Dry English Ale from White Labs.

Very good British yeast - used in an English IPA, efficiency was short would have liked to see this yeast chew on something 6%+. Definitely did it’s job, flavor great, and flocculent. One of few brews you can pour out the bottle and the yeast cake stays tight at the bottom.

Best English Ale Yeast
Creates a well-balanced British ale with a crisp finish to balance the malt. Create an ale like those served in pubs throughout the Yorkshire Dales.

One of my favorites!
More than half the beer I make is strong bitter. I've experimented with many English strains over the years and I've landed on this one. Just about the best British bitter strain out there. In my state's largest and longest running beer comp I have taken 1st in the bitter category three years running using this yeast.
As the previous review mentions, the krausen never seems to fall. I've learned to accept that with this strain and begin cold crash when it is at FG. The krausen does fall during cold crash.
Provides decent clarity without filtration or gelatin, but I typically use gelatin to get exceptional clarity.

Fantastic for
I love this stuff. I've brewed many gallons of standard bitter with it, and it produces just enough malty interest to compliment the hops, without being in your face. Can be a little temperamental, but not overly so as long as pitching rates and temperature control are adequate. Krausen never seems to fall with this strain, but I just monitor attenuation and rack out from under when things have finished up.
