Description

You may have a hard time finding a more affordable counter flow wort chiller. For the homebrewer on a budget, these heat exchangers are one the fastest ways to chill wort. Similar in efficiency to the Chillout plate chiller, but much easier to clean. Plate chillers have the disadvantage of getting gunked up in their small crevasses due to trapped hop material. This unit, on the other hand, can be easily and effectively flushed after use.

Copper is a great conductor of heat, making it more efficient than a stainless chiller of similar design. These units are 9" in diameter and about 7" high. The input and output are approximately 3/8" outer diameter (9.5 mm). They can be used with gravity, but we recommend using a pump.

Check out the video below to learn how to set up the chiller with Duotight fittings (DUO115 & DUO116) that will allow you to attach Camlock, QD, or garden hose fittings to the inputs and outputs, and enable you to control the flow rate at the water inlet.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, this gets my 11 gallon batches down to pitching temps in 5 minutes or less with 60° ground water.
Does anyone know if I can use a standard sharkbite on the “apx. 9.5mm” barb instead of the duofit? I want a metal connector and I want to avoid bsp threads and go straight to npt without and adapter if possible...

BEST ANSWER: I'm not real familiar with this 'sharkbite' connector, but the ends of the wort chiller here are just copper tubing. Any connector that can seal on bare copper tubing without welding should work fine.
Are the duotight fittings for this chiller available through More beer or do they need to be purchased through Kegland?

Is there a "kit" or parts list available to actually connect this to a robobrew/brewzilla? The listed parts get me halfway there but I ended up with duotights running 8mmx4mm Eva barrier tubing running the wort side. Seems really slow.

Can someone provide the necessary parts to use camlocks or QDs with proper tubing/barbs/clamps to get the wort side running? I've spent a lot of money with trial and error and I think I've missed something.

Gets the job done, but needs improvement
Get the job done. Cools the same, as my plate chiller, but much easier to clean.

My only issue is with the in and out ports. Since they do not extend past the coil, there is no real good way to mount or position the chiller. Either the water lines, or wort lines somehow get pinched. You really need to be creative. Logistically, this is a design flaw.

Was Fine for a Few Brews
This is a case where you get what you pay for. The chiller worked excellent for a few batches, the during a transfer on day the outer hose jacket burst. Jacket hose is not braided and is thin. Ordered a stainless steel counterflow chiller the same day soon after this broke.

To be fair this may have been a one-off and others may never have issues with this item.

Works fine but already looking to upgrade
It works fine. Not great, but fine. It's the cheapest counterflow chiller on the market, and it'll get the job done. I don't have a lot of faith that this will last very long, and I'm already looking to upgrade after about 10 batches with it. The part that seems to be failing the quickest is the connection between the black tubing and the copper. The one on the outlet side (hot water) failed first for me. Fortunately this did not cause any damage to the beer. I replaced the crimp ring with a screw clamp. That is holding for now, but it leaks when the hose is on full pressure, and the other crimp ring on the inlet is leaking now too. Since I brew outdoors, I don't worry about it too much, but it's only a matter of time before it fails again. I also don't think that the black tubing itself will last much longer. At some point, it will get a hole or a tear, and then the device will be FUBAR. On top of that, the chill time with this is just ok. You can get wort down to the mid 80's with one pass through the coil, but to get it down below 70, it could take 40 minutes of recirculating, and that wastes a lot of water!

Chills wort to 70's F in one pass. It took me a bit to figure out which connection options to use but, after I got this up with some duotights and camlocks, it's working great.

First time using counter flow
This chiller works fantastic. My tap water is pretty warm here in Florida and it chilled a 5 gallon batch very quickly. They should have an add on package for quick disconnects and garden hose adapters, other than that this has to be the best deal for a counter flow chiller!

Pros and cons
It is what you pay for. I wouldn’t use if you plan on recirculating your wort while cooling. It runs very slow and prone to clogs if run at full speed and you don’t have a filter/strainer. If you plan ahead and run it as a single pass chiller slowing down the wort flow out to get the desired temp it’s not bad for the price but plan ahead on how to use it with your process.

Way better than I thought it would be.
Used this for the first time this weekend, gravity fed with a hose attached for counterflow. I was expecting it to be like 90F coming out then just wait a bit before pitching. NOPE. Straight from the boil after cutting off it was coming out the other end at 59F. CRAZY. Very satisfied.

The connecting pieces I just ended up using worm clamps and tubing I already had, probably worth it for the push fittings but meh. The most interesting part is figuring out how to have the boil pot above the chiller and that above the fermentor. It all worked out but definitely something to think about.

Best purchase for my setup as of late.
