From the alps of southern Bavaria (cue the music), this yeast produces a beer that is beautifully balanced between malt and hop character. The excellent malt profile makes it well-suited for Bocks, Doppelbocks and Oktoberfest-style beers. A very versatile lager yeast, it is so well-balanced that is has gained tremendous popularity for use in Classic American-style Pilsners. Also good for Munich Helles-style lager beer.

We Recommend you make a yeast starter for all lagers. Because of the cold environment you will need about 4 times as much yeast to successfully ferment a lager. If you don't have a yeast starter pitch 2-4 vials at 60-70F and cool to 48-52F within 12-18 hours. To ferment lagers like the German's and Czech's make an active starter of 2000ml per 5 gallons. Pitch at 45-48F and let it naturally rise to 48-52F. Hold your fermentation at 48-52F for 4-6 weeks in the primary. A diacetyl rest is recommended after the last week of fermentation. Raise to 55-58F for 3-5days and crash to 40F. It is normal if lager fermentation takes 3-4 days to show any sign of krausen after pitching yeast.

Attenuation: 70-76%
Flocculation: Medium
Fermentaion temperature: 48-55F
Wyeast Equivalent: None

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

clean yeast - good for pressure fermentation
I pitched the entire packet into a liter of starter the day prior. Pitched at 55F and then fermented at ambient pressure for two days. attached a spunding valve and placed in a 68F room and pressured to 15 psi. Great results, slightly sulfury, but I expect that to dissipate over time.

Arrived cold and viable
No issues here, product came in my cold packs, and was still cold. Yeast was viable enough to make excellent beer.

Great yeast for Bock recipes
Love this yeast. Made many Bocks with this yeast. Ueast starters do great as well with it. Making a Bock with it right now.

Awesome yeast
I use this in everything from American lagers to Dunkels. Gold medals on most beers I brew with this. Does produce sulfur, so beer needs to be lagered or scrubbed with cO2 to reduce sulfur.

Great lager yeast!
I love this yeast, it gives a great malty backbone to any lager I’m brewing without getting that green apple flavor you get with some stains of lager yeast.

This is my go to lager yeast.

clean and malty
This has always been reliable, and as the title says, you end up with clean lagers that lean malty, but not too much. Use it on Ofest and Maibock primarily.

German Lager Yeast
First time using WLP833; came nice and cold inside the cold-pack I purchased. The 833 made an excellent 2 tier starter for my Munich Dunkel.
