WLP029 German Kolsch yeast comes from a small brewpub in Cologne, Germany, and works great in Kolsch and Alt style beers. Good for light beers like blond ale and american wheat. The slight sulfur produced during fermentation will disappear with age and leave a super clean, lager like ale. We have fermented this yeast at 58F and had great success. If you ferment this strain in the high fifties we recommend you make a yeast starter. The cooler ferment produced less esters (fruit character) and made a really clean kolsch almost tasted like a standard american lager. Ferment for 10-14 days in the primary.

Attenuation: 72-78%
Flocculation: Medium
Fermentation Temp: 65-69
Wyeast Equivalent: 2565 Kolsch

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Produces a bright Kolsch
my favorite Kolsch yeast ! Try your best to stick with recommended temperatures and you'll find it works evenly and long. It ferments similar to lager yeast rather than the ale yeast it is.

Perfect yeast for summer Kolsch season.
I’ve been using this yeast for years. Always a clean ferment. Generally pitch / ferment at 57F, bump to 59F after 50% and allow to rise to 65F for the last 10%. Drop to 40F over 5 days. Only yeast I use for Kolsch.

Great, crisp, clean Koslch
I fermented 20 gallons of Kolsch, and it turned out amazing after 13 days. Very pilsner-like crispness, with a lovely sulfur note to drive the crispness home. No detectable esters produced. I did another batch at 58, and it turned out cleaner, but not as good as when it was fermented at 63.

Viable Yeast
We all know that we make wort and yeast make beer. That's why it's so important to have a source of fresh viable yeast. Fresh ingredients make better beer. I've traditionally purchased from Morebeer under the assumption that because of their sales volume, the ingredients turn over more quickly and therefor will be fresher. Unfortunately, the yeast in my past few orders has been 3 months old or older (at a premium price). I've raised this concern with them, but nothing seems to have changed. I can (and will) get fresher yeast at my local shop and avoid the additional cost of ice packs and mailers.

Good for more than just Kolsch
I have used this yeast for brewing Kolsch, Altbier, and more recently for American Wheat. Have been happy with all of these. Performs well in my basement at a temperature range of 58°-64°F

Love this yeast
I was surprised at how clear the beer was when I racked my first batch to a carboy. After 2 weeks there was hardly any sediment at all. Bottled my second batch straight from the fermenter and beer was crystal clear.
