Description

WLP013 London Ale Yeast is malty, dry and provides a complex, oakey ester character to beer. Bitterness from the hops shines through as well, making WLP013 perfect for classic British pale ales, bitters, and stouts. Will not flocculate as much as WLP002 and WLP005.

  • Optimum Fermentation Temp: 66–71°F
  • Flocculation: Medium
  • Attenuation: 67–75%
  • Alcohol Tolerance: Medium (5–10%)
  • Cell Count: 100+ Billion
Wyeast Equivalent: N/A

Please Note: For best results we Always recommend ordering an Ice Pack with your liquid yeast. Ice Packs can be found below in the "You might Also Need" section.

Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

I have used this yeast before for stout. It brings an interesting oaky ester. In this case I am hoping that it will improve a robust porter that is "missing something" after previous batches fermented with Chico strain. Stats on this are lower attenuating.

My favorite British yeast for British style ales. Easy to control ester production with lower fermentation temps and leaves some body in the beer.

Favorite Yeast for English Styles
This is my favorite yeast for my English styles - porters, stouts, and even big beers like Old Ale.

Does yeast things
First time using this yeast. Direct pitch, started off slower than others I’ve used, but then went to work.

Worked Perfect
I didn't use a starter and it took a couple days to get going. Once it got going.....Magic.

Fast start super active ferment.
This a great yeast to use for a nice big malty English Ale.
This is 24 hours after pitching a 2000ml starter of White Labs London Ale Yeast.
This is a 1.088 Old Ale 17 hours after pitching a decanted 2000ml starter.

Amazing Yeast
I brewed a 3.5 gallon 1.111 OG RIS. Mashed at 153 and fermented steady at 66-67. This temp has been controlled by heat and freezer with thermowell inside the wort so I know it has not moved beyond this temp. I pitched a starter of 400 million with this yeast and it took it down to 1.022 in 3 days!!! Was not expecting that. Bubbling has slowed much since but still moving. Beer removed for Gravity reading has great flavor but not getting the oaky flavor others have had.

Ice pack not included
This was my first time ordering yeast from MoreBeer and I missed the line about ordering an ice pack. Now I have no idea how my yeast is and all over a $.79 ice pack. Just include it and charge me for the ice please, this is stupid. Every other place I've ever ordered yeast from includes it so I don't have to think about it.

Response from MoreFlavor
Thank you for your feedback. This is something that has been discussed at length internally, and we decided to not include an ice pack with every purchase of yeast. Depending on the time of year and where a particular customer is located, an ice pack may not always be necessary. By leaving the ice pack as an optional add-on, we're able to offer the yeast at the lowest price possible. We apologize for the confusion and any inconvenience this may have caused.
