Description

This Italian cork is a high quality colmated cork.  These corks have the ageable lifespan of Natural Cork, but are closer to the price of an agglomerated or overrun cork.

Colmated corks are Natural Corks that were not quite flawless enough to make a grade, but are then filled in with agglomerated pieces, resulting in an ageable, but ecoonmical cork.

I settled for this cork because First quality corks only come in 1000 ct packaging. I'd rather have a high quality all-natural solid cork, and I'd be willing to pay a premium for them, but I'm a small home winemaker and there doesn't appear to be a market for small-quantity packs of good corks.

Not Colmated?
The corks I received in the 100 pack were full of holes...that I thought were supposed to be filled ? Not even close to as clean as the photo shown depicts. The tops on some were split as well. Essentially what I received were really low quality corks. I don't know how they can describe these as: "Colmated corks are Natural Corks that were not quite flawless enough to make a grade".

Not very good
Came very dry, lots of holes not filled. Didn't even try to bottle with them. Maybe 5 corks actually decent in the whole bag. Very unhappy with the quality of these. Aquamark are way better in comparison. I ended up letting my kids play with them.

Colmated Wine corks
My first time using this cork and have not had time for the wine to age so I do not know how they will stand up at this time. However, based on the cost of previous corks that I have used many of them were poor quality and I threw some out and some that I did use leaked as well these seem much better. They inserted easily and the cost is much more favorable.

Great Corks - Cheaper than All Natural
According to the Cork Quality Council, CQC, colmated corks have the life span of all natural high grade corks, but are substantially cheaper. So you could use them for a complex Cab you intend to age for 20 years or more - which I did. According to the CQC, agglomerated should only last 1 year, and tech 1+1 up to 3 years. According to Wine Folly, the simplest reds, and whites like Chardonnay and Viognier, need 2.5 years MINIMUM aging. So factoring in realistic aging times and overall costs, these easily become the go to corks.
