Wide Mouth Glass Carboy with Spigot - 6 gal.

Wide Mouth Glass Carboy with Spigot - 6 gal.

Item currently out of stock

Glass carboys have been a staple of the brewing and winemaking world for generations, but traditional tight neck carboys aren't without their limitations. Standard glass carboys can be difficult to clean after fermentation and require a siphon or racking cane to transfer liquid out. The wide mouth carboy is extremely easy to clean—simply removing the lid allows you to get your hand or arm all the way inside to scrub away stubborn sediment. And with a convenient spigot at the bottom, you can transfer liquid out of the vessel with ease.

Each carboy comes with a carrying harness and airlock lid.

Airlock Lid Setup:

  • Twist off the small red cap
  • Twist on the small white cap
  • Pour water or sanitzer around the small white cap until it covers the blow-off vents

  • 6 Gallon / 23 Liter capacity
  • Gasketed lid for tight seal
  • Airlock lid
  • Plastic spigot with 17mm x 2mm threads
  • 18mm hole for spigot
  • Included carrying harness
  • Additional spigot styles can be found below

Please note: The carrying harness should not be used to move the vessel when full. The airlock lid is primarily recommended for short fermentations. For long term storage or aging, we recommend using a #5 stopper and standard airlock.

Because I bought a kit that came with a plastic carboy and the little o ring failed causing the beer not to ferment.

One of the few large format glass jugs on the market. Avoid plastics folks. We take it for granted, but yeasts will try and break the chemical bonds of polyols. Use glass, steel, or hardwood.

What spigot should I buy to attach a hose?

How tall is it?

BEST ANSWER: It's about 17 inches with the lid and airlock. Note you'll want a different spigot if you are connecting to tubing.

Just another carboy
Decent carboy. Spigot is pretty useless, can't hook up a hose to it and it's made to look metal but is definitely plastic. Also spigot hole in carboy is different, smaller size than most, so if you have alternative spigot spares they probably won't fit. I notice these homebrew websites LOVE to nickel & dime you for different size spigot or different size bungs so you have to keep buying more random size parts instead of just having a standard size for all.

Nice vessel
Spigot is limiting because you can't attach a hose to it. Hole in glass is 18 mm or 23/32" so it's impossible to find a replacement spigot with a hose barb. All of them are 1". I hesitate to put a steel spigot on this because steel will win and glass will lose (break) if there is impact on the spigot. I like the vessel and the vented cap so I will alter (Dremel) the hole to accept a 1" plastic spigot shaft.

It's great
Awesome carboy. Very reasonably priced. Works as intended, assembles easily with no leaks or issues. Would recommend buying a different spout when purchasing.

Wide Mouth Carboy
Carboy seems to work fine. Kind of surprised to see glass fragments in the bottom of the new carboy. Spigot not that hardy but will likely replace with something more solid.

Makes brewing with whole hops easier as well as testing for hydrometer readings.
