Description

Glass carboys have been a staple of the brewing and winemaking world for generations, but traditional tight neck carboys aren't without their limitations. Standard glass carboys can be difficult to clean after fermentation and require a siphon or racking cane to transfer liquid out. The wide mouth carboy is extremely easy to clean—simply removing the lid allows you to get your hand or arm all the way inside to scrub away stubborn sediment. And with a convenient spigot at the bottom, you can transfer liquid out of the vessel with ease.

Each carboy comes with a carrying harness and airlock lid.

Airlock Lid Setup:

  • Twist off the small red cap
  • Twist on the small white cap
  • Pour water or sanitzer around the small white cap until it covers the blow-off vents

Features:

  • 2.3 Gallon / 9 Liter capacity
  • Gasketed lid for tight seal
  • Airlock lid
  • Plastic spigot with 17mm x 2mm threads
  • 18mm hole for spigot
  • Included carrying harness
  • Additional spigot styles can be found below

I only use wide mouth glass fermenters and I need to rack off 5gal primary. Using 2 x 2.3gal secondaries would be a lot easier for me to move around than more 5gal jars. The volume should be just about right coming from 5gal.

What is the size of the smaller cap (where the included airlock lid can go)? Can a PET bottle ball lock adapter be added for low pressure gas transfers?
Cole Christian on Feb 26, 2022
BEST ANSWER: The inside diameter is exactly 1 inch. There are no threads on the outside. I found a rubber cork at home that was just oversize and shaved it down to just fit into the hole. I drilled a hole through it and used the 3 piece airlock instead of the water-less airlock. It worked just fine.
what are the dimensions of the 2.3 gal carboy?
Trinidad Gastelum on Jan 5, 2023
BEST ANSWER: It is 12 1/4 " high, 8 1/4" Wide. The opening at the top is 6".

Needs a Spigotless version
There needs to be a version without the spigot.
I just ordered the stainless steel Spigot because the plastic one pictured here is flismy and feels like it will pop off at any moment.

Great as secondary fermentation
I bought 2 of these for 2nd fermenting of wine and mead. They work great. Glass is nice and thick and of course it's nice to watch your wine finish. And its much easier to move around than 5 gallon carboys. Easier to clean too.
My only complaint is the lid. Very thin cheap plastic and the seal ring is like a paper thin Styrofoam. Lid needs to be thicker and there should be replaceable heavy duty food grade rings.

Strap broke on first use
Fermenter was great first out of the box since it did not leak from the spigot seal. However the straps that come with the fermenter broke after it was filled with 2 gallons of hard work and good wort. I still like the fermenter but will never trust the straps it comes with again.
