Description

Make brew day easier! Customize your kettle to read liquid level at a glance, without removing the lid.

The Fermentap Weldless Sight Gauge features a glass sight gauge encased in a chrome-plated sheath. All metal parts in contact with the beer are 100% stainless steel, and the gasket is a high temp, food-grade material. You will need to drill a 1" hole in your kettle. This sight gauge features our Fermentap Bulkhead, which is a beefy bulkhead with a full port hole. This means you can upgrade this setup with a thermometer which will thread into the body, allowing you to check temperature and fluid level off the same upgrade!

Features:
  • 16"" Sight Gauge is perfect for up to 15 gallon kettles (dependent upon dimensions!).
  • Monitor liquid level visually without opening up your kettle! Extremely useful for HLTs on the top tier of a sculpture.
  • Stainless construction means the product will last for years.
  • Sight Gauge disassembles easily for cleaning.
  • 1/2"" FPT on sight gauge base means you can upgrade with a thermometer!
  • Replaces our WL121.

bought for robobrew
Installs easily with no mods to the unit itself. The reason for the 4 stars is minor; cleaning the glass is awkward, the cap screws off to remove the glass and the metal is then and flexes a lot so be careful. Also this just may be my unit but the ball valve that went was on the robobrew will not screw back in so the spigot is pointing down. It points to the right with a slight upward angle. it still drains and at the end tipping the machine will help but its an annoyance.

Sight Glass on Robobrew
I purchased this item to install it on my Robobrew, and it works great and makes it easy to monitor the volume during sparging.

Best I’ve found...
I have four of these site glasses. Easy to install with the weldless fitting or remove it and install on a welded half coupling. Easy to disassemble for cleaning. Just be careful not to Gaul the 1/8” threads on the tube retainer. Instructions say put the weldless fitting washer on the inside of the kettle between the lock nut and gasket. This arrangement tends to leak. I strongly suggest putting the washer on the OUTSIDE Between the kettle wall and the sight glass fitting, hold the lock nut steady on the inside and turning the fitting from the outside, removing the sight glass to do so if necessary. This method provides a positive seal between the locknut, washer and inner kettle wall and eliminates the leak source between the locknut and washer if positioned on the inside. Also prevents squishing and distorting the gasket that very often occurs when tightening the locknut against the washer from the inside per the instructions.

Works as advertised
Totally leak-free after several uses. Once I gauged the sight glass with levels indicating the number of gallons of water, I found it to be more accurate than the old "mark the mash paddle" method, especially during turbulent boils when the surface would move up and down quite a bit. The gauge level stayed fairly constant.

Missing the number strip
And i think it could be made cheaper. Overkill with some parts.

Good Product Overall
I now have three of these and they work well. There would be no standard marking strip for this as the graduations would vary dependant on the diameter of the vessel used. Acid etching the glass would be the best finish after first marking temporarily by adding measured amounts to the vessel used. I did run into a slight issue when adding a thermometer into the sight glass fitting. The threads of the sight tube leaked after over tightening the thermometer as the therm threads hit the sight tube threads. Reassembled and no problems.

Needs Improvement
Does not come with a way to mark volume on the site gauge. I have seen other models that come with a numerical strip that can be placed on the site gauge to give you an actual reference. Without it you have essentially attached a metal and glass tube to your kettle that doesn't really tell you anything.

I guess I will mark it with a sharpie....???

Response from MoreFlavor
How do you expect it to have finnished marks when there are no way to tell what kettle you attach it to...? This is a "use everywhere it fits" gauge, not a boilmaker gauge for boilmaker kettles etc...
