Description

A great way to harvest your fresh, clean yeast for re-use in your next batch! Our Yeast Harvester uses a full 2 inch sight glass, together with a 1.5 inch reducer at the top, to become the perfect vessel to capture yeast in.

The Ultimate Yeast Harvester is able to hold close to double the volume of our standard yeast harvester, this means your doing half as many dumps or able to harvest twice as much yeast!

 12" in length.

How it works:
Yeast naturally fall to the bottom of our conicals (which is one of the nice things about them). After 3-4 days into fermentation, dump your trub as usual and close the butterfly valve. Attach the Yeast Harvester to the valve and re-open the valve, which will flood the harvester with beer and some yeast. Over the final days of fermentation, the yeast will drop out of solution and collect in the sight glass, displacing the beer. At the end of fermentation, you will have a full container of creamy white yeast - perfect for pitching a huge quantity of free yeast into your next batch. Close your bottom valve and disconnect the Yeast Harvester and attach the pressure relief cap over the opening and seal with a tri-clamp. Always store in the refrigerator. Included relief valve prevents over pressurization.

Unit Holds 300ml. Max PSI: 6

In this video you see active fermentation. The yeast harvester was left on to observe the onset of fermentation and to easily collect the yeast once it settled out for re-pitching.

Below is a yeast slurry about seven days after pitching. As you can see the color is a nice white cream color. This is what you're looking for to re-pitch. This is the cleanest amount of yeast available before any trub, hopbreak, and dead yeast start to settle out.

Does this introduce oxygen to your beer? It seems like once you open the valve, all of the air in the harvester would rise through your beer.

BEST ANSWER: Hi Dane Jack, this is a good question. I work at a brewery and I use this to bring yeast home for home brewing. I have had the same question myself. I fill it with co2 before I connect it. I’m sure that displaces the oxygen and keeps the solution safe from any oxygenation.

Thats a lot of yeast
This thing is big, I was expecting something 1/3 the size. If you spend the money on a conical this upgrade is a must! The ability to harvest yeast is only part of it, you can watch what's going on during the entire fermentation and adjust accordingly, dump trub, dump non viable yeast cells and of course harvest a perfect yeast cake.

Great idea!
Works exceptionally well and the best thing is I'm able to visually see where things are in the fermentation process.

Honestly, I can't see why.
I bought this with my 14 gallon comical and then realized I had to buy the extension legs to be able to attach it. Even then, I can't see the advantage of spending another $200 to harvest yeast that I can get By holding a sterilized measuring cup under the valve after flushing the trub.
It seems to be much ado about nothing but then maybe I just don't know what the hell I'm doing.

2 versions sent, one works, one does not fit right
Purchased two of these, one came with larger bolts that use a 1/2" wrench. The inside flanges are machined to fit the glass sight tube and gasket with another step machined for the stainless piece that fits around the glass tube. This one fits together and works great. The other version has smaller bolts with acorn nuts and uses a 10mm wrench. The glass tube and gasket fits fine but when you try to add the stainless piece that fits around the glass tube it does not fit right. If you clamp it tight enough it probably won't leak but you can see the gasket tweaked no matter how you try to fit in inside. I have returned this one with pictures to show that it does not work and they sent me the same style back. I gave up on trying to get the right configuration and I just don't put the stainless piece around the glass tube and it works. Usually get good quality equipment from More Beer but this is an oversight on their part and ovbiously they have not fixed it the right way. Otherwise it is a great tool to not only harvest yeast but to watch and monitor fermentation. If you attach it during peak fermentation and open the valve quickly, watch out because your wort will go crazy and shoot foam out of the airlock for several minutes!

Great product
If you have a conical, you should get one. This product makes it so easy to dump trub harvest your yeast for another batch. Excellent quality, and easy to sanitize.

works well, but definately depends on the yeast
If you spent the money for the conical, you definitely need one of these.

The timing can be a little tricky, and definitely comes down to knowing your yeast. Also works better with yeast strains that settle out.

Outstanding!
Best addition to my home brewery in years! If you have a conical you've got to get one of these even if you don't harvest yeast because the window allows you to monitor the fermentation process. Immediately after pitching the trub settles at the bottom of the harvester and I'll dump it a couple days in a row until it's gone. Then, as fermentation begins to slow the yeast will begin to settle and I'll dump it every few days until it stops settling out. Once the yeast stops settling then I know fermentation is done and it's time to keg.
