Description

First Gold is a dual purpose hop suitable for use at the beginning or end of your boil. It has a very attractive aroma which some liken to Goldings, but with a higher Alpha content than traditional aroma hops.  Good aroma and bittering qualities, combined with a zesty citrus quality, produce a well-balanced bitterness. An orangey quality has been observed in many beers brewed using First Gold.

I've never used it but the profile seems interesting and want to do a smash with it to test it.

Apricot and Orange
I brewed a hop-forward ESB with one ounce of First Gold at 15, 10, 5 and whirlpool. Right out of the bag, this hop had a moderate apricot aroma as well as the classic EKG-like floral/earthy qualities. Fermenting with a WLP007 and Imperial Barbarian yeast blend accentuated First Gold's stone fruit characteristic. I would absolutely recommend using this hop as your center-stage or even single-hop variety in your next ESB or English IPA, though I would not go heavy on specialty malts if you want this hop to stand out. The hop bag arrived fresh from MoreBeer in a timely fashion.
