Description

  • Brand new, all-stainless construction ball lock keg
  • Stackable with ball lock quick disconnects in place
  • Etched In and Out labels near the keg posts for easy identification
  • Rolled handles for a comfortable grip
  • Made by an ISO certified commercial keg manufacturer with high-quality laser welded seams

Set your sights on a brand new Torpedo Keg! The patented, D794,899, sleek all-stainless design represents a new era of homebrew kegs. With features like welded stainless handles, the ability to stack with fittings in place, amazing quality and a great price we think these kegs will become the standard by which other kegs are measured.

Quality First
The first thing we at MoreBeer! check out is interior welds. We've spent a decade rejecting kegs made overseas because the interior welds have never met our standards. If a weld is not perfect and shows evident burn marks along with nooks and crannies it cannot be sanitized effectively. These kegs are machine welded and exceed our standards for quality. The weld quality is possible because these kegs made by an ISO certified commercial keg manufacturer.

Cool Features
Torpedo Kegs were designed to stack with Ball Lock quick disconnects in place and serving which is a cool feature for some brewers who have vertical space in their refrigerator. We also like the rolled stainless steel handles. They are comfortable to grab and will never come off like some rubber handles can over time. In and Out is etched near the keg posts for easy identification which is very handy when you are connecting lines in a refrigerator or kegerator and trying not to make a mistake.

Overall for the price and quality, along with free shipping from MoreBeer!, the Torpedo Keg is an amazing value!

Taking your keg on the go? Don't leave home without a custom fitted Torpedo Keg Sleeve!

What is the height of two stacked 2.5 gallon kegs? Thank you.
Gerrod McKnight on Feb 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can see at the 4:25 mark in the overview video that when you stack them there is ~ 1" (2.54 cm) overlap saved, so: 2 * 14.75" - 1 =~ 28.5".
You do the math for metric.
Do u need an adapter to hook up to a normal kegerator if so what is it called?
Matt M on May 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I converted my Sanke tap head to ball lock fittings. Then I converted my hoses to 1/4" flare with Ball lock connectors. I can use the Sanke for commercial kegs (through the ball lock converters) and I just use the Morebeer Torpedo flare ball lock connectors directly to homebrew in Torpedo (or other) ball lock kegs...
Where are these manufactured?
Brad H on Jan 22, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I don't know for sure but my guess is China. Many professional brewing systems are now made in China. That is why some 15 or 20 barrel professional brew systems are 30-40% less expensive than American made systems. Historically the American or German made professional brew systems and fermentors tend to last longer as they are usually build more stout with higher grade 304 stainless steel. I hope this answer helps.
What is the actual volume of the 5 gallon keg (not the nominal volume which is 5 gallons)? How does it compare to a traditional ball lock 5 gallon keg? Do the slimline and regular torpedo kegs have the same actual volume?

Slimline Torpedo Keg | Ball Lock Keg | Stainless Steel Corny Keg
Slimline Torpedo Keg | Ball Lock Keg | Stainless Steel Corny Keg
BEST ANSWER: After purchasing several of these, I made some measurements of the capacity of two "5 gallon" slimline kegs using a high quality calibrated graduated cylinder. Sadly, in each case the total capacity (to the rim) is only 4.845 US gallons, which means a practical operating capacity of something like 4.75 gallons or less. If you are expecting to keg 5 gallons, you're going to be at least a couple of pints short in each keg.
What size wrench do you need to take these torpedo kegs apart?
isaac a on Dec 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: 11/16"
Do these kegs require a first time "deep clean", for example with TSP? Should they be passivated with Star San before first use?
John Buckles on May 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It's always a good idea to do a thorough cleaning and inspection of all new equipment for brewing. There is a chance of oils or things from manufacturing remaining on the stainless. In our experience you shouldn't need to go above and your normal cleaning regimen or passivate them unless you encounter a troubling spot, which if so our CS team is always around to assist you with any concerns or needs.
How many inch pounds should the gas and liquid posts be torqued to?
Jim S on Mar 19, 2024
Can i stack two 2.5 torpedo kegs and be able to serve beer from both of them at the same time? Or will the beer line and co2 line being connected prevent them from stacking?
Steven Lipka on Nov 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: While I agree with others that you can stack these and have access to the connections. stacking them this way is too tall to fit in my kegerator by several inches. two stacked is much higher than one single corny.
Can Torpedo kegs safely withstand being filled with hot liquid at a temperature of around 170F? Hot but well below boiling!

BEST ANSWER: Yes, should not be a problem. In the olden days (1990's) many home brewers cut off the top of their 15 gal kegs and used them as mash tuns and boil kettles. Go to brewmagic web site and you can see some of there current boil kettles still have the old keg look to them.
Are these kegs shipped with any type of protective packaging? I have seen several reviews saying that people received them with scratches and dents.
Gerrod McKnight on Feb 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they are packaged in a plastic liner and then put inside of a box.
Do the gas and dip tubes use standard Cornelius keg O rings?
Jim S on Mar 19, 2024
BEST ANSWER: Yes. They are basically corny kegs without all the rubber. I would recommend the slim line ones if height allows.
Any reason why I can not or should not use these in horizontal position? For dispensing I'd like to put one in a mini-fridge but it won't fit upright.
Blaine S on Aug 4, 2024
BEST ANSWER: I’ve never done that, but I would use either an optional floating dip tube or I’d position the beverage out post on the “bottom” to draw beer from.
What accessories exactly do I need to dispense from one of these (besides the 1/4" flare or barb faucet)? The flare or barb QD "option" and a 1/4" line or tubing assembly?

BEST ANSWER: Pressure in, pressure out. These pieces will get you where you want to go. I suggest that if you are planning on using this a bit, spend the money on stainless fittings. They last a lot longer and work and look slick IMO.

Good quality with a shorter profile than most. Perfect for my kegerator.
I’ve filled the first of two 5 gal kegs. It seems to be high quality with good fittings. It’s in the fridge, awaiting the first glass to be pulled and tasted. It’s slightly shorter that other kegs which allied me to fit it in the commercial, undercounter unit I had.

Great keg for fridge
I bought this keg because it will fit in the fridge without taking it over. The build quality is very nice and all seals up properly. I added the floating dip tube as I'm conditioning beer in the keg and wanted to stay out of the sludge.

Overall very good
I should point out that I'm not an expert on interior welds -- they look pretty good to me.

What I was worried about was leaks (based on other reviews), and I can say after several uses I'm not seeing any evidence of leaking. I'm using this for carbonating water at 80-100psi, so leaks are a non-starter for me. Using the trick where you center the cap and then pressurize before flipping the bail lever seems to work every time.

One one occasion, I connected the gas input fitting (also a Torpedo-brand fitting) and it didn't open one or the other check valve so gas didn't flow. I had to play with it a bit to get it to open.

Other than that, no complaints.
