Description

The Super Hop Filter is designed to rest inside your kettle and keep hops and other vegetal matter from transferring out with your wort. This is a great alternative to hop bags which have the potential to decrease hop utilization. While using this filter basket you can add hops directly to your kettle for maximum wort exposure.

The 13.75" diameter will fit most 10-gallon or larger kettles. It's also wide enough that most immersion chillers can rest inside the basket during chilling.

How tall are the feet on this basket? Will it clear the SS brewtech trub dam?

Will this fit the 10 gallon SS Brewtech Kettle? Looks like it might need a bit more space based on diameter?

Is the 13.75” Height include the legs or is that the basket only height? Makes a difference for volume. I have a smaller version of this and works great for mashing.

BEST ANSWER: Both being 14", I would say no. I have an 8.5 I use for sparge water. I have put this in a 15 G pot and it still doesn't hit the bottom. Got to remember that you have the temp probe sticking into the pot and any welds. This is for whole hops only, not pellet. Pellets totally clog the screen and it is a ROYAL pain lifting it and getting the wort out. Just use large bags for the hops, then drain/remove bags and do a good whirlpool and let it settle 45 minutes for a cone to build up after cooling to 68 or so..
The listing currently says “300 micron mesh”. Which one is it, micron or mesh? They are significantly different units.

BEST ANSWER: Micron. Its a fine 300.micron metal mesh grain basket
Don't use it for.hops unless you have a 25 g boil kettle. The mesh is too fine and disrupts the boil

Not very useful. Truly disappointing.
I wish I had read the reviews before wasting my money on this basket. It's no good for pellet hops or as a a mash basket. It clogs up with the fines from mashing , which isn't a problem if you don't recirculate. When used as a hop basket it clogs with hot break particles before it clogs up with hop particles. I wanted it to keep my new plate chiller relatively clean. Other than that it is not good.

Too big!
Fits "most 10 gal kettles on the market" but does not fit in a Spike 10 gal kettle.

Not for pellet hops
This is definitely not for pellet hops. They form a sludge like layer across the bottom and on the si8de up to the level of the wort.
I suppose it would be fine for whole leaf hops though.
I have a kettle mounted (no weld) port and the liquid inside the basket does not move.
This is either due to the fine mesh or the sludge on screen, cannot tell. I would suggest leaf hops only with a whirlpool arm inside the basket.
So this is useless to me.

Was waiting for this for a long time used at end of boil 60 min 180 to 170 lid on then lid off at end the smell of peaches and spiced lime peel

Great for mashing grains too
I use one of these for mashing. Like brew in a bag but in a basket. Never thought about using it in boil. I may try that next time. Easy way to strain out the hops after the boil.
