Description

Hop rhizomes are now available for pre-order! We’ll be fulfilling orders as soon as they’re available, usually in early to mid-April. Pre-orders will ship out immediately, so order now to ensure availability and lock in priority fulfillment!

6.0-9.0% AA. Grows well in all climates. Sterling is a hybrid of Saaz.

Sterling is a great substitute for Saaz due to a similar spice aroma. This hop is very similar to Santiam but not as floral. Best described as herbal and spicy, with a hint of floral, citrus (lemon/pineapple) characteristics. Ideal for all Lagers, Belgian ales, and Wheat ales.

Rhizomes should be planted immediately for best results. If your area is still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter indoors until it is safe to transplant outside. The first years crop will generally be smaller than subsequent years. Since these are live plants, we cannot guarantee they will grow, so we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure their success.

Shipping Restrictions:

Due to agricultural restrictions, we can only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the United States, excepting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and Kootenai in Idaho. Unfortunately, we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.

Shipping Limitation: This item does not qualify for free shipping.

Prebook Item: Please note this item is not currently in stock, but is available for Pre-Order. We do require payment in full in order to reserve stock.

Research on this variety found it to be a hardy, disease resistant Saaz hybrid - a dual purpose hop for several styles including lagers and pale ales.

I planted these 4 or 5 years ago and it has always grown thin and only a few cones here and there. I have Magnum in the plot right next to it that grows great. Besides adding nitrogen rich fertilizer, what am I missing?

Super Sterling
I got a great rhizome with a couple of bugs already going. Once I potted it, it really took off. I didn't have to do much at all!

Can’t wait for these!!!
I planted these hops right when they arrived in mid April and I strung a twine to the eve of my 1 story house. These hops have reached the eve now and the twine is attached right by the peak of my house. So it’s July now and I planted them in mid April and they are about 20 feet tall. I highly recommend installing a drip system in for hops and using well drained soil. I live in Turlock, Ca and it’s hot as hell here. My hops are on the hottest south facing side of my house with pretty much full sun all day. I made sure to cut the shade leaves off the bottom 3 ft and I also spray them weekly with organic pest repellent. I also bought cascade rhizomes from more beer. The cascade are shorter but starting budding earlier which is good so I have two different picking windows. So overall I love how great these are growing and how healthy they arrived to my house from More beer! Cheers!
This is less than a week after planting.
