Description

Few materials are more durable or more attractive than stainless steel, which is exactly what sets this Stainless Steel Wort Chiller from MoreBeer! apart from similar chillers. This chiller is made from 50 feet of stainless steel tubing measuring 1/2 inch diameter.

Although stainless steel takes a little longer to cool your worth than comparable copper tubing, its advantage is that it won’t tarnish between uses. Stainless steel is also much more affordable than copper, which makes this an economical choice that won’t sacrifice quality or real-world effectiveness. This stainless steel wort chiller also contains a brass hose adapter for an even more attractive, high quality look and feel.

The Stainless Steel Wort Chiller 50’ x 1/2” from MoreBeer! is made entirely in the U.S.

Note: The inner bend on the coils have small indentations that are a natural result of the winding process used during manufacturing. As an upside, these do actually help turbulate the cooling water to eliminate laminar flow (helps increase the cooling capacity).

I like the design and the value of the 1/2 inch coils to provide additional surface area at little or no added expense compared to other 50-foot wort chillers.

I have a 12" opening on my keggle, and the product lists the diameter at 12.75". Is this the actual OD of the coil, or the overall product with the fittings? Will the coil slide into a keggle with a 12" opening?
William D on Apr 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My coil is not 12.75’’. It’s just shy of 12.5’’. But if you only have 12’’ to fit it in, I’m confident this chiller would not work.
Will this suffice for 10 gallon batches?
Anthony C on May 17, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Yes I have done up to 15 gallons and it will cool it down in about 30 minutes course depends on how cold your water is coming out of the faucet if you can find a way to chill the water it will come down even quicker some guys use a recirculation pump stick it in ice and water send that through the wort chiller To get a quicker cool down time
The image shows a gap between the first couple of bottom loops. Is it possible to get this where the loops are stacked tightly and evenly. That would help as I have a more shallow/wide kettle? I want the entire chiller submerged.
Jim S on Sep 26, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jim,
More beer asked me to respond to your question because I bought the wort chiller you are asking about.
The distance between the bottom of the coil and the top of the coil is only 12.5 inches. I can’t imagine that you pot is shallow enough to need a more compact coil. The principle behind this design is that the top of you wort is the hottest therefore the coils have more contact with that area. I really like this chiller because it is more durable and easier to clean that copper. Since I live in Texas I have to pre-chill the water. The SS one goes in the wort, the copper one goes in the ice bucket. I hope this helps.
Do you clean stainless wort chiller differently from copper?
Darryl Beplay on May 21, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Just barely. The advantage of the steel is that it is way easier to clean. You don't have to worry about scratching, kinking, or breaking it and you can leave it in any cleaner as long as you want without harming the metal.
Are the fittings soldered or compression?
Brooke S on Jan 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: They are compression fittings. Well made chiller.
I'm curious about what would be needed to setup the garden hose fittings for quick connects to a pump? e.g., initially would like to run from the faucet and then switch it out to a cooler of ice with a basic pump setup, but am fairly ignorant of fittings.
Michael B on Sep 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Michael - That's a few fittings, but this may help get you started. CE24 is a universal faucet adapter that can run garden hose from the kitchen sink, it fit's most kitchen sinks. H500 are quick disconnects for garden hose, that should allow switching back and forth from different water sources.

High quality / works great
This is a really great wort chiller. I'm very pleased that I choose this one. Sturdy and well crafted, with quality fittings that did not leak even one drip.

Reduced the 2-hour chill time from my previous ice bath method to only about 15 minutes.

Very efficient. I was able to soak and rinse to clean. This is such an improvement and time saver for my brew days.

Easier to keep clean than copper. It is also more durable (less bendy) than copper as well. I do not notice a difference between the heat conduction of the SS than copper. Science tells us there is but the other positives outweigh that slight difference.

Made first batch. Cooled from 212 to 80 in @ 30 mins.
I used a beer cooler with ice water with 2 large bags of ice.
Bought fiberglass reinforced tubing with hardware store brase fitting and a 70 gal per hour electric fountain pump. Could not be happier. Hired off and brush cleaned was fast and ezy. I used Teflon tape and cranked about 30 lbs. On the fitings. No leaks and the flow was perfect. Love it love it love it.

Fitting leaks upon first use
Although the item was on backorder., it was received within a month of purchase. It does chill my wort, however, the brass inlet fittimg on the chiller does leak a bit and I had a number of water drops fall into my wort as of my first brew. I'm going to have to figure out how to tighten the fitting or return the product.

Surprised at the large coil diameter.
I did not check the diameter of this coil before ordering. To my surprise the coil would not fit in my 12 inch or 13 inch kettles. My fault for not checking the diameter of the coil. The coil also had several kinks that I had get out by compressing them in a shop vise. I was able to bend the coil to a smaller diameter to get it to fit in the kettle. The first time I used the coil both the compression fittings that attached the hose fittings leaked. It did cut chilling time significantly from my 25 ft copper coil.

The tubing measures 0.475" OUTER dia,, I was expecting 0.50 INNER dia. Product arrived with multiple kinks in tubing. See photo. Very dissapointed.

We apologize for the disappointment and the kinks in the chiller. The stainless steel is much stiffer and sturdier than the copper, we do our best to bend it to the same diameter so it will fit in all the same brewing kettles making it an easy choice between the materials. We do have a 1 year wear and tear warranty. If the chiller doesn't perform as you need it to or causes any other problems we will work with you to get you a satisfying result. Cheers!

Replaced my broken copper chiller
Accidentally left water in my home made copper chiller over the winter and had 3 areas crack from freezing / expansion. Decided to purchase this chiller, because I didn't like the patina that formed on the copper between brew days. The first use worked well, and the configuration fit my kettle perfectly. Chilling speed was very good for my 5 gallon batch. Would recommend.

Chiller is great but not stainless steel.
The chiller is great but it is not stainless. I was shipped copper and decided to keep it as opposed to returning it. So the chiller itself is 5 stars but since it's not what I ordered, I went to 4 stars.
