Description

Here’s why homebrewers like to use butterfly valves:

Regular ball valves can trap wort inside of them. If the wort doesn’t get completely cleaned out it can become infected & turn sour, transmitting that infection to the next wort to travel through the valve.  A favorite of homebrewers, sanitary butterfly valves are easily cleaned in place. Because their internal mechanism is not complex, they can also easily be taken apart for a deeper cleaning when desired. 

This is a compact design with a 7 position handle, made completely from AISI 304L stainless steel. The handle's indexing plate can be reversed for either right or left hand use.

Seals fine, but can unintentially swing 360 degrees
Seems to seal fine, but the handle can be depressed so far that the valve can be unintentionally engaged beyond the metal lock out bit which means the valve may actually be slightly open when you think it's shut. The valve *works* but unlike all of my other TC Butterflies you have to be -very- mindful and cautious about it's usage. Being able to swing it 360 degrees instead of 180 is definitely a bug, not a feature.

Excellent Customer Service; not brilliant valves
I run a medium sized production facility - so our butterfly valves get a lot of use.
We ordered 8 of these valves and sent 8 back. Each one overshoot it's size safety check and allowed to handle to rotation 360' degree. That means you can easily reopen the valve if you go to far when shutting it. Regardless of the quality of steel/gasket/etc being able to open a valve when you're trying to close it merits a single star.
This might be fine with a very careful home brewer - but we believe it's a danger under any circumstance.

We replaced them with model FF170 (via MoreBeer!) and those valves have been great so far.

Big shout out to Michael from CS for helping us fix this issue!

cleaning valve
I don't find this very easy to clean. I took the whole thing apart and couldn't get the silicone ring around the actual flapper part of the valve off. I figured some elbow grease with using a screwdriver would be the only way to take it apart, then it broke! so what now, I have to buy a whole new butterfly valve?

The point of using this product is you do not have to take it apart. It is clean in place.
