The future is here today, and the future is HDPE Fermentation & Storage Tanks from Speidel.

Are you tired of carboys? Hate siphoning to transfer? Wish you could ferment larger batches in a single container? Sick of lifting 50lbs by a small metal handle? Done with worrying about shattered glass, injury and lost product? Well then have we got the solution for you!

These heavy duty plastic tanks offer a fantastic fermentation & storage solution at a great price.

Key Features:

  • Heavy duty HDPE construction is durable and resists oxygen transfer. None of the risks of working with glass.
  • Small footprint makes them easy to store - take better advantage of the space you have to dedicate to wine & beer making.
  • Built-in handles make these tanks easy to move, even when full.
  • Large lid opening makes them easy to clean by hand - say goodbye to your carboy brush!
  • All ports seal with gaskets and the vessel can be fully sealed for long-term storage.
  • Includes a spigot and oversized 2-piece Speidel airlock.
  • Designed and manufactured in Germany by Speidel, the makers of our legendary commercial wine tanks

Suggested Applications:

  • 12L: Perfect for storing small lots, making experimental batches and taking some of your beer or wine along with you to your next party.
  • 20L: Ideal for secondary fermentation and storage of 5 gallon batches.
  • 30L: The vessel for fermenting wine kits and 5 gallon batches of beer with plenty of headspace and no need for a blowoff tube.
  • 60L: Perfect for fermenting larger batches of wine or 10 gallon batches of beer in a single container! Only 4" larger in diameter than a 6.5 gallon carboy!
  • 120L: Ferment & Store large batches of anything - your creativity is the only limit!

Approximate Dimensions: 13.5in Diameter x 18.5in Height (w/out airlock in place). Note - The maximum temperature that these plastic fermenters can handle is 140F.

I brew 5 gallon batchs and based on no bad reviews, this was a no brainer choice for upgrading from bucket fermentors.

After brewing with my 60L Speidel fermenter that I received as a Christmas gift, I've decided to start replacing my glass carboys. These puppies are so easy to clean, and there are so many great accessories available (dip tubes, blowoff tubes, etc.), that i've decided they are the way to go!

Seen to many pictures of broken glass carboys and I'm not ready to make the jump to stainless. Also love the headspace on the one I already have, no blow off tube needed.

Does this unit include a threaded cap that will screw into the opening where the bung and airlock are inserted? I want to make sure I can completely seal fermenter if necessary in order to cold crash.
Doug Fike on Feb 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this fermenter will include one locking cap to seal the hole in the lid and/or spigot area.

I rated a four because it was not in stock in PA. I live in MA. As such I had to wait a week for delivery. Otherwise Morebeer has the best shipping. It’s fermentong a Juicy Pale Ale as we speak.

Great all around, robust fermenter
Beefy fermenter that has great sealing connections at the top openings and bottom valve. I also got the stainless valve and think it just adds to an already great fermenter. Very simple parts and easy to clean. Only wish it was clear because I like watching the churn of the active fermentation, but I can get over that.

waay better than other plastic fermenters
I broke 2 better bottles and 2 of the vintage shop plastic fermenters. Didn't drop them, didn't use too hot water, they just broke. The Speidel seems much tougher, and it's a lot easier to move, the water lock doesn't suck sanitizer into the beer when you pick it up. I like it a lot.

Good stuff
Used to put up beer, but went to cider due to access to apples. Replaced my glass carboy after years of use. The unit is easy to clean, easy to transport even when full (handles seem sturdy). Finally, convenient for bottling.

Really like my Speidal’s!
Fantastic fermentation vessel. Solid plastic, easy to clean, great airlock, wide mouth for dry hopping etc. Haven’t used the spigot yet but nice to have the option. Nice wide profile (Belgian yeast like short/wide rather than tall/skinny in my experience and that’s mostly what I brew). Lots of accessories available. Economical... buy two!

Well designed
Works as advertised and is solidly built. Plenty of head space for a five gallon batch. After shattering a glass carboy I strictly use plastic and this is by far the best option available. My only minor beef would be not being able to see a vigorous fermentation.
