The future is here today, and the future is HDPE Fermentation & Storage Tanks from Speidel.

Are you tired of carboys? Hate siphoning to transfer? Wish you could ferment larger batches in a single container? Sick of lifting 50lbs by a small metal handle? Done with worrying about shattered glass, injury and lost product? Well then have we got the solution for you!

These heavy duty plastic tanks offer a fantastic fermentation & storage solution at a great price.

Key Features:

  • Heavy duty HDPE construction is durable and resists oxygen transfer. None of the risks of working with glass.
  • Small footprint makes them easy to store - take better advantage of the space you have to dedicate to wine & beer making.
  • Built-in handles make these tanks easy to move, even when full.
  • Large lid opening makes them easy to clean by hand - say goodbye to your carboy brush!
  • All ports seal with gaskets and the vessel can be fully sealed for long-term storage.
  • Includes a spigot and oversized 2-piece Speidel airlock.
  • Designed and manufactured in Germany by Speidel, the makers of our legendary commercial wine tanks

Suggested Applications:

  • 12L: Perfect for storing small lots, making experimental batches and taking some of your beer or wine along with you to your next party.
  • 20L: Ideal for secondary fermentation and storage of 5 gallon batches.
  • 30L: The vessel for fermenting wine kits and 5 gallon batches of beer with plenty of headspace and no need for a blowoff tube.
  • 60L: Perfect for fermenting larger batches of wine or 10 gallon batches of beer in a single container! Only 4" larger in diameter than a 6.5 gallon carboy!
  • 120L: Ferment & Store large batches of anything - your creativity is the only limit!

Approximate Dimensions: 13.5in Diameter x 18.5in Height (w/out airlock in place). Note - The maximum temperature that these plastic fermenters can handle is 140F.

Good reviews and size. Conicals in plastic was desired before this, but reviews on the conical made me purchase this one.

I already own 2 and bought 2 more. I have over 15 batches in each one without any problems. These things are fantastic. If you have the extra $ make sure you buy the chrome spigot since the one it comes with is plastic and el cheapo.

After brewing with my 60L Speidel fermenter that I received as a Christmas gift, I've decided to start replacing my glass carboys. These puppies are so easy to clean, and there are so many great accessories available (dip tubes, blowoff tubes, etc.), that i've decided they are the way to go!

Does this unit include a threaded cap that will screw into the opening where the bung and airlock are inserted? I want to make sure I can completely seal fermenter if necessary in order to cold crash.
Douglas F on Feb 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this fermenter will include one locking cap to seal the hole in the lid and/or spigot area.

Heavy Duty Fermenter
I have only used this for 1 batch. It works well and easy to move with the handles. High density plastic vessel, with the attachable parts being sturdy and looks to hold up over time.
For a plastic unit, I haven't seen or used better.

Great product, nice mod options, 2nd locking nut?
The fermenters are very well built and the mods that can be purchased really make the most of the units. But in order to use the mods (blow off tube/ thermowell) I need a 2nd locking nut. I've send More Beer 3 e-mails inquiring about purchasing additional locking nuts and I've received nothing back from them. Not to pleased with the "service after the sale".....

So far so great!
Brewed my first batch of amber ale, and bottles today. Was so easy to set up and use, the tub cake was below the spigot so transferring the beer to a bottling bucket it looked very clear. I did not secondary ferment. Will know the final results in a week or two!

Good Fermenter, Fix The Sharp Edge
Used fermenter for first time. Love sturdy design and extra head space for 5 gallon brew.

However, despite reading reviews on this product about sharp edge on mouth of fermenter, I scraped my thumb on this edge while cleaning/ sanitizing the fermenter. So, brewing was delayed while I attended to my bleeding thumb. This sharp edge really needs to be fixed, otherwise great care must be taken while working with this fermenter.

Overall a good fermenter with plenty of head space and easy to clean. Not as good as my Souveron but is about half the cost.
It's a solid fermenter but seems to have a few flaws. It doesn't drain well from the top while cleaning. Its not slopped enough to drain. I also find it to be very slippery when cleaning. Good points are a very large air lock and the lid seals well although the gasket seems a little flimsy. I aslo noticed none of our standard hose sizes fit the valve spout. I suspect it may be metric. I'll have to investigate further.

OK but
My only complaint is the barrel should have been gal/liter marks. You would think the designers could have thought of that. All in all it works very well, just a pain to have to figure out capacities and mark it with perm marker. Just bottle and 6 gallon batch of acai, will taste in a few days.

Great Product
I really like the Speidel Fermenters. Got the 20L and 30L sizes. Easy to setup and clean. No more carboy brushes and heavy bulky glass containers. I did however install a smaller inside diameter stopper to accept the standard air lock we use here in the US. My first Speidel I purchased was in Germany in 1998 and I transported it back here on the plane instead of my luggage. LOL! It was a 60L. I am so happy now that they are now available from MoreBeer. My first batch was an APA and you couldn't tell the difference whether it was fermented in glass or plastic. Besides that it was easier dry hopping than in a carboy. Thanks MB!
