Saflager W-34/70 Bohemian Lager Yeast - Fermentis

Saflager W-34/70 Bohemian Lager Yeast - Fermentis

Please select from the following option(s) to see pricing and availability.

The famous "Weihenstephan" yeast from Germany. W-34/70 is a widely used yeast strain that gives beer a clean finish and lets the malt really come through. Give this yeast a try and you might just have a new favorite!

This yeast can be pitched directly, but if you prefer to rehydrate, the instructions are below.

Sprinkle the yeast in a minimum of 10 times its weight of sterile water or wort (we suggest 4 oz) at 70°F to 77°F (21 to 25 °C). Do not stir. Leave to rest 15 to 30 minutes. Gently stir for 30 minutes, and pitch the resultant cream into the fermentation vessel.

Easy. No need to hydrate. Use dry. Great Euro lager finish. A little different than 189. Much better than Saflager 23.

Lagers made easy
I swear this yeast makes an awesome lager at 50 degrees and 80 degrees or anywhere in between. It’s foolproof.

Good lager character
Keep primary below 59 degrees and there is low ester production.

consistent, quick starting (for a lager), useful for multiple lager styles, clean finish w malty flavor, maybe not quite as much maltiness as some specialist yeast but the difference can be corrected w a small increase in mash temp.

Only yeast I use for lagers
Always a great yeast for any German lager. I use 2 packs for a light Vienna lager or Munich Dunkel and reuse it for do8ble bocks.

My go to lager yeast
This is a good lager yeast. It does not require starter, direct pitch after oxygenating wort. I use two packs for a 10+ gallon batch if cellar is cold or high starting gravity, but one pack works.
