        My go-to yeast for lagers

I've been using this exclusively for the last few years for all my German lagers using a 1L+1L (2-stage) yeast starter in my pressure fermenter, and this yeast consistently produces very clear lagers w/o any finings, and it's always amazingly active. I've even done lagers at room temp (68F-70F) at pressure and it's had a perfect taste every time. I usually make a Helles or Doppelbock, and this has become my go-to yeast since my last 2 Wyeast shipments went sideways. :(

        Best for pressure fermentation

Great for pressure fermentation at room temp. I've double pitched and had quite tasty results but had a pro notice right away from tasting that I over pitched. So, going to try one packet for a 5 gal batch this time instead of two. But, I've pitched dry at multiple temps in the 65° to 78° range after cooling and immediately gassed up to 15psi with a spunding valve and it's been off to the races within 24 hours. Fermentation done in corny keg and PET kegs with floating dip tube. Let ferment 7 days, cold crash to 36° for a couple days and you have a lager in 10 days, a pretty clear lager in 21 days, and if you're lucky some left in a month. Not guaranteed. I let it sit on the yeast cake the whole time and it just gets tastier and clearer every day.

Great yeast, very clean fermentation, and high attenuation. I have used it when fermenting under pressure, up to 15 psi with great results.

Never thought a dry yeast would outperform a liquid yeast ! (Vienna Lager)

I have been brewing since 1994, and exclusivly used liquid yeast that became easy to find since then.I only used 2- 11.5 gram packs in a 11 gallon conical fermenter. Pitched in at 49F. then slowly ramped up to 64 over 10 days, held there 2 days, then slow cool 2-3 degress/day down to near freezing to Lager 2-3 weeks. The results were spectacular! Very clean, maltiness from the Vienna malt and Pilsner malt shined through. Hops were snappy enough to balance the Malt, as the yeast played out so clean.OG 1.050, EG 1.013I love this yeast!

        Really enjoy using this yeast

Been using this yeast a few times recently after I started pressure fermentation in a korny keg. Beer turns out great and I can get it done in about a week and the beer has been clean and crisp. Used it in a German Pilsner and the Morebeer Cerveza kit. The Cerveza needed some time to clear up but tasted great. Will use again.

        Good product

Standard taste . Good for lager. But nothing special. The typical workhorse to produce a good lager.workes well.

Probably the best yeast on the planet...

Torture it at 48F for weeks. Or spund it at 68F and 15PSI for a few days. You'll get clean, crisp beer that does a great job highlighting hops.I don't even bother having US-05 or Nottingham in my yeast library anymore. If I want a clean ale, I use this lager lol. If I want a real ale, I use boddington's or fullers.

        Great yeast

This yeast makes great lagers even at temperatures up to 60 degF.

        Amazing stuff!!

I Lagered my first ever homebrew because it was the middle of winter. I heard that lagers can be tricky but this stuff turned out beautifully!3 weeks in the fermenter at 63 deg. 3 weeks bottled at 68 deg and this is BY FAR the best beer I have ever tasted - ever! The heavy sedimentation really left a clean final product with no filtering. I used US-05 on the next batch and did not end up with as clean a beer. I can’t wait till next winter to brew with this again!

I will definitely use this yeast again, and continue to experiment with it beyond Pilsner.

This was my first time using dry yeast and this one rocked! Beautiful fermentation on a Pilsner with 84.6% attenuation. No starter, pitched directly to wort at around 80 degrees.

        Great Yeast!

I've brewed several lagers with this yeast and they have all turned out fantastic! Recently I pitched this yeast into a Munch Helles and then used the yeast cake to ferment a Maibock. Exceptional aroma and flavor - don't let anyone tell you dry yeast is inferior!

        Warm lager ferment

I ferment this lager yeast at 68-72 and it is indistinguishable from ferment at 53-55... 7-10 day clearing with gelatin... clean and clear finish

Sulfur Bomb! But oh so good

Day 3-4 the ferm chamber smells like a big fart, but I think sulfur is an antioxidant, as with a few weeks of lagering this yeast produces excellent Pilsner and Oktoberfest. Even though not recommended I build up 1L starters and pitch.

        Lagers made easy

I swear this yeast makes an awesome lager at 50 degrees and 80 degrees or anywhere in between. It’s foolproof.

        Good lager character

Keep primary below 59 degrees and there is low ester production.

Reliable yeast for German Pilsner. Fermentation started within 12 hours.

        Daron M G.

consistent, quick starting (for a lager), useful for multiple lager styles, clean finish w malty flavor, maybe not quite as much maltiness as some specialist yeast but the difference can be corrected w a small increase in mash temp.

Only yeast I use for lagers

Always a great yeast for any German lager. I use 2 packs for a light Vienna lager or Munich Dunkel and reuse it for do8ble bocks.

        My go to lager yeast

This is a good lager yeast. It does not require starter, direct pitch after oxygenating wort. I use two packs for a 10+ gallon batch if cellar is cold or high starting gravity, but one pack works.

        Like it better each time

Another reliable yeast not the fastest starter but for lighter lagers leaves a very clean beer minimal fruit overtones and no diacetyl. Nice not having to mess with large starters.

        Good Lager yeast

Good dry Lager yeast similar to S189. I use two packets for a 5.25 gal batch. Ferments very well at 55 degrees. My only reason for 4 stars is that I do not get as much attenuation as I would like (78%). I just got a pure Oxygen set up hopefully that will solve my problem.
