Description

Great to keep on hand, either as a backup, or as a go-to yeast for your lagers. Produces a nice lager taste: clean and crisp.

Finally there is dry lager yeast we can recommend. This bottom fermenting yeast is widely used by Western European commercial breweries. This yeast develops the best of its flavors when fermented at low temperatures (48-59°F) yet it can still produce "lager characteristics" at higher temperatures. We recommend that you keep it between 48F-59F to produce the best beer possible.

This yeast can be pitched directly, but if you prefer to rehydrate, the instructions are below.

Sprinkle the yeast in a minimum of 10 times its weight of sterile water or wort (we suggest 4 oz) at 70°F to 77°F (21 to 25 °C). Do not stir. Leave to rest 15 to 30 minutes. Gently stir for 30 minutes, and pitch the resultant cream into the fermentation vessel.

I like the convenience of dry yeast, and I've always had great results with Fermentis products. Plus, I think it tolerates the heat better when shipping during the summer months.

Good go2 for a lager
Getting down with chillness. Seems to like temperatures 48- 58. Backed with the propper start has a nice smell.

Really Nice Yeast
Used in pressure fermentation with a pilsner recipe and worked great even at room temperature. Will use again.

Great Lager yeast
Use it to make Torcido, a Mexican Lager kit from More Beer.
I do pressure fermentation in a spike flex. I added 12 lbs. pressure at pitching and the yeast took off. Temp was 71 in the room. I have a 15 lbs. relief valve and it went to 15 lbs. in a day. Done fermenting in 9 days, cold crashed for two and now I have a great Mexican lager everyone enjoys. Love pressure fermenting, don't have to worry about temp and had 6 batches turn out great so far.

Fermented lager in 4 days at 54 degrees
Used 4 packs in a 12 gallon batch. This stuff worked great. The beer is still lagering so hopefully taste matches performance once it is carbonated.

Clean flavor
I used this in a Maris-otter based Helles. Came out very clean when pressure fermented at 10 PSI and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. No notable off-flavors under these conditions.

Easiest Lager yeast
I've recently started making lagers after acquiring an old fridge and temp controller.

I have tried both SafLager and WhiteLabs.

I have had most consistent results with both SafLager strains with both starter as well as just sprinkling in the wort once the proper lager temp is acheived.

Won a Bronze medal for my Munich Helles with a 2-l, 3 day starter of 2 S23 packets with 1 cup of Breis Pilsen DME.
