Description

Formally US-56, Safale US-05 is a strain of yeast that creates that classic American profile of clean malt, crisp taste, low diacetyl, and ability to ferment in a wide range of temps. Look for Safale US-05 to be the next popular dried yeast.


This is marked as directly pitchable yeast and there are no rehydration instructions.

Some instructions for rehydrating yeasts: Suspend yeast in 4 oz of warm water. Do not stir. Let stand for 15 minutes. Stir gently. Add an equal amount of wort to your solution. Cover, let sit for five minutes, and pitch.

This yeast is very robust (I have used it for a 12% imperial stout), very agressive, but has a clean flavor profile. It also performs very well when just sprinkled on wort or in a starter.

Never had a problem with this yeast
This yeast always does a great job. Works fast, no need to rehydrate, just pitch it and you're done. I also reuse my yeast, and they only get better with the next few generations.

Switched from liquid yeast
Living in central California, it was difficult to get viable liquid yeast during the summer months. Last summer I decided to try dry yeast again and was totally amazed by this yeast. I have stuck to it ever since and it has always turned out some awesome IPA's. I recommend a pack and a half per 5 gallon batch. Never had any issues.

Great for brewers in warmer climates
I live in the southeast, where it is difficult to get mail order liquid yeast for most of the year. I have had great results with this yeast. It is cheap enough to buy two packets per 5 gallon batch.

I used this yeast for the first beer I ever made, 20 minutes after i put it in the carboy my airlock was bubbling. I now realize my wort was probably a little warm but it still turned out to be a good beer.
