Description

Imagine a brewing pump that eliminates cavitation, is easy to clean, has a built in valve, and is quiet. Introducing The RipTide pump from Blichmann, the first pump designed specifically for homebrewing.

We love this brew pump. Like a brewer wired on coffee, let us rattle off some of our favorite features.  First, the pull style relief valve that allows air to exit the pump head so the impeller won't cavitate is a genius addition. Our next favorite feature is the bad-ass, built-in flow control valve so you don't have to add additional ball-valves. While we dont manually clean our pumps very often we like the idea that we can easily do that with the clover clamp style connection. That might be particularly important if you are transferring cool wort where extra sanitation might make a difference.  Equally cool is the noise, or lack thereof, when operating. It just wears on you to hear your pump grinding away all day. The RipTide pump isn't silent, but it is much quieter.  And to top it all off we like the mounting base and the extra long 9' cord. 9' gets the plug connection a few feet away from where we are brewing and less likely to be exposed to water - a simple upgrade that is really nice.  Oh, and we almost forgot the power switch which is always a nice feature on something electric!

All in all this is a no brainer upgrade for the difference in cost.

Features:

  • Strong rare earth magnets and a curved blade impeller provide 7 GPM and up to 21 ft of lift
  • Tri-Clamp head disassembles easily for cleaning
  • 1/2" NPT inlet and outlet
  • Motor is enclosed in a splash proof and super quiet case
  • Rotatable stainless steel head
  • Integrated air release vent allows you to easily prime the pump everytime without those frustrating air bubbles and cavitation
  • Linear flow valve provided for excellent flow control
  • Power switch on base
  • 10 ft. long power cord with 120V plug

It is hands down the best pump on the markets. Sure it's also the most expensive. But no pump comes close to its options and performance! Buy once cry once. You get what you pay for. Blichmann products have never let me down.

I wanted a second one to bring everything down to one level. So worth it when you are dealing with 10 G batches. This pump is quiet and has a lot of well engineered details that only a brewer would appreciate.

What’s the amp rating for this pump?
neal dekoeyer on Sep 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Neal - I am unable to find documentation on amperage.
I run a small winery, would pump would work as a transfer pump? Currently using a surflo at 3 gpm.
Kirk Taylor on Jun 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It can work great as a transfer pump, but it will depend on your setup. The Riptide will transfer at a faster rate than the surflo, but won't build as much pressure. Transferring long distances, to higher elevations, or into the bottom of a large tank might slow or even stop the flow. That said, it's a great pump and I love mine. Tech support at Blichmann is great, let them know how you plan to use it and I'm sure they can give you an idea how well it will work. They want their customers to be happy
what is the temperature rating for this pump? can it be used with boiling liquids?
Eric Albrecht on Jun 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The pump sits away and separate from the impeller body, so hot liquid does not directly heat the motor. The impeller is a magnetic drive, so there is no direct linkage or shaft connection. I used this pump many times to maintain a whirlpool in the boil kettle with near boiling wort and there was no ill effect on the pump.
Does the tower of power pump bracket fit the riptide pump?
mark searle on Nov 12, 2019
will this pump work with a 2 barrel system?
Lewis Brewer on Oct 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yeah it should work out just fine, even if you are pumping liquid vertical. We use is to assist with emptying beer from barrels.
The dial on the face of the pump head is supposed to be for speed control, however we keep it wide open all the time. Not sure what the actual flow rate gpm is.
Does the pump need to be horizontal to function or can it be mounted vertically? (Like on a wall)
Benton K on Oct 7, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This can be mounted vertically or horizontally, it does not affect function of the pump. The pump does need to be primed, we do that by filling the inlet tube with water, then immediately submerging it in the liquid we will pump, and turning the pump on. Works every time, and it doesn't matter what position the pump is in.Enter an answer to this question.

Very nice pumps
I bought 2 because I was needing to replace 2 older pumps that I couldn't get impellers for anymore. These pumps are great! They're fairly quiet, move liquid fast and easy to disassemble for cleaning!

Well built would buy again
Finally someone got smart and put an air bleeder valve to make priming the pump easy. Also the quick release bail makes taking the outer pump housing off to clean. Bravo!

It took a bit to get it primed but once we shortened hoses to less than 6 feet it worked great. Easy to disassemble and light weight.

Great pump
This is a well designed pump. It's definitely top end. It has a built bleeder valve. It has a built in flow control valve. It can be completely disassembled for cleaning in about a minute. You'll never want for more power on the homebrew level.

Great pump!
This has been a really great pump! Ive been using mine for a quite a while now and Ive only had one issue that they have resolved permanently. The tri-clover head connection (simple cleaning and pump) and the low noise level make this pump a huge plus in my book.

Two concerns on it:
1. Some of the impellers on the first additions were not built well and required replacement pretty quick.
2. I am not the biggest fan of the valve system that they use as it is hard to get really good control of the flow. As well, the lock springs tend to stop working after a number of uses so you have to pay attention to how much you have opened the valve.

If they made this with more of a ball lock option - Id give it a 5 star!
Also would like a VFD on this pump to control pump volumes rather than using the valves.... not sure if that would work the best but sounds good to me:).

Best pump ever!
But once, cry once! This is an awesome pump and works great for every phase of the brew day. I use it when steeping grains, whirlpooling, chilling and racking and it has never overheated nor complained. Make sure to prime it, and you can pump boiling wort through it just fine. Yeah it’s pricey, but quality always is
