Now you can precisely control the temperature of your fermentation, both heating and cooling with this 2 stage temperature controller.

To control ferment temperatures you can place the probe inside the space that is being cooled or heated (often a refrigerator) or you can place the probe directly into the ferment using our Stopper Themowell, FE624. You can set up all your temperature control needs to do cooling and heating mode directly from the digital control panel.  Please look for our video tab to watch an easy to follow guide to programing them.  When in cooling mode, and hooked up to a refrigerator or other cooling device, the controller turns the compressor on when the ambient temperature rises above your set point. When in heating mode and hooked up to our FermWrap (preceeding page) the controller turns on the heater when the temperature drops below your set point. A FermWrap around a fermenter or inside a unplugged refrigerator can be the ideal solution for those cold winter ferments. To control a pump when mashing you would install a thermowell in your mashtun. This can be done in our welding shop or, if you have a coupler in your kettle, you can install our Coupler Thermowell, FE622.
The unit features an adjustable differential down to within one degree in both heating and cooling modes. This means you can precisely control an environment to within one degree of your set point.
The included sensor probe monitors the temperature while the digital readout displays it in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The sensor probe is 1/4 in diameter and works well with the Stopper or Coupler Thermowells. Temperature Range of -30 to 220F.
We also use this digital controller in conjunction with our stainless steel conical fermenters and Brewing Sculptures. With the fermenters it monitors and regulates our electronic cooling units through a thermowell that is permanently installed in the side. With the Brewing Sculptures it can monitor and regulate Mash and Hot Liquor tank temperatures by turning pumps on and off.

I've set me 2 stage ranco to 67 with 2 degree diff cooling for stage 1, then 64 with 2 degree diff heating for stage 2. The temp probe is 74 degrees. Seems like only the cooling receptacle should be on. right.? Both the heating and cooling receptacles on my controller have power. why would the heating and cooling circuits be on at the same time?
Gregory Hendricker on Apr 23, 2021
BEST ANSWER: You are correct that only the first stage should be active with your settings the way they are. First thing to check is if the unit 'wants' to send out the power; the display will show "S1" and "S2" which correspond to the outlets. While "S1" and/or "S2" are visible that means the brain is sending power to the outlets. It sometimes will happen that the controller itself is wired backwards; if that's the case we can work out an exchange. If you change the setting in stage 2 from "H" to "C" does the outlet lose power?

If the display is showing that only S1 is on but both outlets have power then you could double check that the wiring inside the outlets is correct. The two sides can share a negative and ground wire, but the hot wires should be distinct. If they are sharing a hot wire then both outlets will receive power when any one of them is supposed to.

Updated and upgraded
New is nice. This has features my previous Ranco 2 stage didn’t. It has a backlight for the display and now a short cycle delay

I was sad one died after 5 years but I’m very happy with the replacement

This is the second unit I’ve purchased. The first one only lasted a little under two years and then began showing error code. The instructions basically said to replace it. Could it be repaired, who knows. So I purchased another one so far it has worked as advertised. We’ll see. This is an expensive unit and only getting two years out of it is disappointing

Fails after a couple of years.
This product is a piece of junk. This is the second one I've had that has stopped working. Neither the cooling or heating side works anymore. Came out to check on my beer today and it was totally frozen. This product is way to expensive for it to fail after a couple of years.

decent product but excellent customer service
I had the previous version of this unit (ETC-211000-000) for 2 years. The relay for the cooling outlet just went out. When I called and asked for a replacement or refund I was initially told no. When I pushed the request up the ladder, and explained the circumstances and problem they sent me a new unit in 3 days. This kind of customer service is what will keep me coming back to MoreBeer for purchases, even if not all the products are superb.

Great for large volumes
When fermenting larger volumes this Ranco controls more precise than others I tried.

I recommend this dig. control. I have used this for my refer./fermenter box for a couple of years. proper temp control has made a big difference in my finished beer. Easy to instal and operate.
