Pre-Milled:
Description

  • A classic Porter recipe with a smooth, creamy body and delicious roasty flavor
  • Includes Northern Brewer and Cascade hops
  • Estimated ABV: 4.8%
  • Estimated IBUs: 31-34
  • Makes 5 gallons of finished beer

Chocolate and Black Patent malts are the backbone of this style. Our all-grain version of Porter features munich malt for a little maltiness and carapils for better mouthfeel and head retention. The Northern Brewer hops impart a nice, but not overpowering bitterness. Good first dark beer. However, for many people, this is their favorite style. Just ask Regan who is a Porter nut. All of our Porter recipes are descendants of his designs which date back to the 1980s. You will not find any Roasted Barley in our Porter recipes as we believe this is the defining difference between Stout and Porter. If you would like to see the difference for yourself try making our B3 Stout (in extract) or our Silk Stout in all grain form and then one of our Porters. It is fun to have them on tap at the same time and show people the difference in dark beers.

  • Makes 5 gallons
  • Estimated Original Gravity:1.048-52
  • SRM (Color Range): 29-30
  • IBUs: 31-34
  • Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.8%

Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. To find our yeast recommendations, choose your preferred kit option above and then select the drop-down menu under “Yeast Options”.  For more info, click on the recommended yeast(s) below in the “You Might Also Need” section below. All grains will come milled, unless you select unmilled base malts.

Excellent recipe
I really believe that the difference between a stout and a porter is the roasted barley. I like that this recipe states that. Mine turn out a little bit watery since I mash at 150, but still the flavor and aroma was great

Makes an outstanding Vanilla Porter
Great beer by itself, added three vanilla beans this time around. I butterflied the beans and cut them into quarters. Then soaked them in a mason jar full of rum for 4 weeks. I added the concoction into the secondary for 2 weeks. Kegged it under 40 psi and started drinking it 5 days later.
Wow, it's awesome!

Great first porter
This beer was truly delicious on it's own. It was very drinkable within a week on tap. It's somewhat dry and crisp- not very sweet. I brewed it again and altered it slightly to make it a little bit more robust and to make use of some hops I had on hand. But you won't go wrong with this as it is. Nice job More Beer!
