Description
  • A crisp, golden pilsner with a light malt flavor and spicy hop flavor
  • Includes Perle and Czech Saaz hops
  • Estimated ABV: 4.5%
  • Estimated IBUs: 25-32
  • Makes 5 gallons of finished beer

Golden color with a light malt flavor. Bittering hops are Hallertau. The spicy hop flavor comes from the Czech Saaz and Hallertau hops that are added late in the boil. Low in fruity esters as is characteristic of this style. Added body comes from the addition of Dextrin Powder.

I’d make this one again for sure.
Very nice recipe all around. Might use a 1/4-1-2 oz more of a flaming hop addition, but your mileage may vary on that. It’s solid.

Excellent
My first lager. Used a more contemporary fermentation, started about 54 until evidence of fermentation. Then down to 48 until krausen just started to subside. Then ramp up 2 degrees a day until 68. Heard this on BN from Tasty McDole. I was very pleased with the results. Used rehydrated Saflager 23 AND 34/70. Had some esters from over pitching. Will definitely brew this again. My beer was more towards the Export strength.

Pretty Close to the Real Deal
I've brewed this kit twice, with bottles and kegs, and the results were very close to a traditional German pilsner! The reason I didn't give it 5-stars is that the flavor is a little more hoppy than I'd prefer.
