Pilsner Dry Malt Extract (DME)

Pilsner Dry Malt Extract (DME)

Please select from the following option(s) to see pricing and availability.

Dried Malt Extract (DME) is the primary sugar source in extract brewing and can be used in partial-mash or all grain brewing to adjust flavor, color and gravity of brews.  DME can also be used to increase head retention and body. Many brewers choose nutrient rich DME as the sugar source for making yeast starters as well. Briess dried malt extracts are made from 100% malt and water.

Pilsen DME: 99% Pilsen Malt; 1% Carapils Malt; Water

Pilsen Light is the lightest DME available from Briess. With a subtle malty flavor, it can be used in the production of any beer style, either as a base or to boost gravity.

Typical Analysis:

  • Color: 2.0º Lovibond (8º Plato)
  • Fermentability: 75%
  • Solids: 97%
  • 1.043 PPG

Smells good
I liked the Pilsner malt, the grind was nice. I used it in a Partial Mash Mr. Beer HME based recipe, to make an Abbaye Ale. It is still fermenting but smells nice.

I use this to make starters
I use this to make starters, I follow a 1/10 ratio, so for a 1 liter starter I would uses 100 grams of DME, and 1000 ml of water. This gets me to a gravity of about 1.040. Its a great way to hedge my bets and get a great fermentation every time.

Good to have on hand
I'm fairly new to AG brewing so my efficiency isn't that great. I use a couple of ounces if my preboil reading is a little low.

Fantastic base malt
For my all extract Pilsner recipe, this has been the primary base malt. Great consistent quality.
