Munich Helles is a favorite style of many homebrewers, who see it as what American lager should be: a richer, maltier light beer. This does not mean that the beer is sweet; it is maltytasting, and dry, with a clean, balanced finish. Stylistically, it is less bitter than Kolsch, but not as malty as Oktoberfest. It was Munich’s answer to the popularity of Czech Pilsner, but brewed more to the local taste with less bitterness.
