This recipe is named after the esteemed George Fix, who authored so many important articles and books when American homebrewing was in its adolescent years. Bohemian Pilsner is a richer, rounder tasting beer than German or American Pilsner, but not as bold as Dortmunder export. For many years it was claimed that this style had to be brewed with mineral free water, like the snowmelt of Pilsen itself, but the brewers routinely added brewing salts to the water to bring up the calcium to about 50 ppm. Using distilled water is recommended for this recipe, because the extract already has the necessary minerals in it.

The award-winning recipes from Brewing Classic Styles by Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer, prepared and assembled into ready-to-brew ingredient kits! These kits have been specially designed to be brewed at home on your kitchen stove with a minimum of equipment. Each kit comes with clear, illustrated brewing instructions for the general brewing process and step-by-step instructions for brewing that particular kit. The kits range from extract-only, to extract and steeping grains, to extract and partial mash and contain everything needed to brew 5 gallons of beer. All you need is a standard equipment kit from your local home brewing supply shop and a 5 gallon (20L) pot.

Ordered this product - received it but I did not find any instructions and this has a bag of Amalyse?
Tyrone Anderson on Dec 30, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello Tyrone, I also did not receive instructions in my kit so I brewed it the same way I do most beers: Heat 2 1/2 - 3 gallons water to about 165 degrees. Turn the burner off and place the bag with the grains in the water and steep for 20 min. Take the grains out and bring wort to a boil. Add all the DME and 2 oz hops. Boil 45 min then add another 2 oz hops. Boil another 15 min and turn the burner off then add the last 1 oz hops. (as I recall, my kit contained 5 oz hops. If your kit has less, adjust the amounts as you want. I did not use the amalyse at all. I Googled what it is used for and it looked to me like it should really be used when you are doing all grain brewing. I'm not bottling this brew until next week, so I can't tell you how it turned out. Good Luck! Colleen

Great Recipe - Highly recommend
I decided on the Palmer Premium Recipe because when I was first learning to brew it was Palmer's book that helped me take my brewing from barely acceptable to creating a beer I would put on stage next to the very best. I was not disappointed by this recipe. Everything you need is included, and you get a true to form final product. Highly recommended.
